Take a bow Morne Morkel, today we witnessed Hyde not Jekyll making his presence felt.

We heard Mark Nicholas's comparing him to greats like McGrath and Garner, I've always known he had it in him but it's been frustrating to see him fail to realise his abundance of talent. I hope he kicks on from here by consistently taking wickets  instead of just playing the role as a support bowler to Dale Steyn.

Well done AB as well for giving Morne the new ball....innovative and great captaincy.

I think that the Perth pitch represented problems to virtually all batters.   There were rare exceptions - like Baily, De Villiers - in both games - Miller and Marsh.  It was a bowlers paradise.  Two five-wicket hauls by bowlers in the second ODI is proof of that.
The SA bowling attack and especially fielding was abysmal in the first ODI - and 100% back to normal in the second one.
The SA team has a problem in the absence of Duminy and they brought in Behardien -whio is a flop wherever he played.
One would have to see how the teams go on a more batter-friendly pitch.   We would not know that before we see the Canberra pitch on Wednesday.  We will  have to see how the games pan out in the upcoming three ODI's.   The game in Canberra on Wednesday would probably be the series decider.
Since the upcoming WC is to be played in Australia and New Zealand and looking at the matches thus far this year I would say that the top two teams in contention would be SA and Australia  - but in ODI's anything could happen on given days.  .

Don't know anything about the Canberra wicket. Australia have been hit and miss in all forms lately. Clarke looks to be out for the summer. I would find it hard to pick a favorite for the World Cup but it certainly would not be Australia.

Sorry to hear abbout Pappie being out.  for the season.  The problem Australia faced is the flat courses at India, SriLanka and the Arab Gulf states.   Does not suit their batters and bowlers at all.
At home they are more difficult to beat.   That is why I rate them in the WC.  Incidentaly SA adjust better to the wickets int eh emntioned states - that is why we have a better record against them.
The Dark horse in teh WC is the West Indians - they hopefully will play SA in a test and ODI series in December and January and we will see then how they are gooing.   I cannot see India, Pakistan or Srii-Lanka making hadway on the Aussie pitches - they may do better in New Zealand.

I really like the look of Rossouw........great bowling by Morkel

Good to see Miller back in form

Get rid of useless Berhardien once and for all.

Play Stiaan v/Zyl, Elgar or Hendricks in his place......its that simpe

Dave, I can remember how both of us finger-pointed Morne as the real deal and perhaps he should have been the opening bowler. I've always had a wrap on him but I became frustrated with his under-performances. Glad to see him grab a bagful.

I love the composure of Hendriks....looks the real deal, same goes for  Riley Rossouw....so there's life after King Kalliss hey?...just presents itself in a different shape.

With respect - that was many years ago - and they have been very bad when playing away from the Gulf States.

Yes, we have some good young bats in Hendricks, v/Zyl, Elgar, de Kock, Miller and Rossouw.

In a way its a pity we did not bring Rossouw into the fold a few years back.

I want to see de Lange get more game time and invested in......they need to discard the likes of McLaren and Berhardien. How did Berhardien play a single international match......hell I am an old man now but am sure I could do a better job than him!!

Rabada should be brought into the fold in the ODI's as well, they have taken the step in the T20's......move him into the ODI squad as well now. Cummins played test cricket for Oz aged 18 did he not?

We could do with another handy spinner. Tahir is solid, but getting on now.

 Dave
I would go into the game without Behardien and play another bowler - either Abbott or De Lange.  If we cannot do the trick with six batters - we are not going to make the grade anyway.
My team for Wednesay would be the following:-
De Kcok, Amla, Du Plessis, Rossouw, De Villiers, Miller, Philander, Steyn,  Morkel, Abbott/Van Zyl, Tahir.
All three of De Kock, Amla and Du Plessis failed in Perth - but tht is unlikely to happen again - unless the pitch in Canberra is as bowler-friendly as the one in Perth was.  My gut feeling is that it quill not be - the SA Fast bowlers are too good for them to face under such crcumstances so we may find a much more abtter-friendly pitch in Canberra.

 Balls Mozart
I cannot understand that selection of players.   First of all to go into the match without a fifth bowler and pick Behardien is a balls-up.
Do you call 48 runs at an rpo of just under 6 a failure?   The only youngster who failed was Rossouw, who had  some good scores in Australia - eg in the T20 matches - but failed in the latest ODI - the rest are not youngsters.  F af has been around for years and so has Miller.   Behardien - also around for years - always was a flop in any event.

As I recall you and Sapp wanted to exclude Amla, but he handily outpaced and outlasted de Kock, Johnson's bunny. This was the pitch for young/ new players like de Kock, Miller, Rossouw, Behardien to flourish in the absence of Johnson. De Kock made a decent enough start but didn't play the big innings we needed ....the rest looked ready to get out with every ball.

Moz, I am yet to see a poster on any board sing Berhardien's praises. And none are actually too fond of McLarren either. Deach Lock is fine, he will get there. As for Johnson, Amla was just as much his bunny.

Mozart will always denigrate younger players and praise the older ones.  De Kock has a serious problem and it shows in every innings he plays in.   He has mostly to bat at the fastest rate possible to off-set the slow starting batting by Amla.  In games where Amla bats at a fast rate De Kock takes his time to start his inning and catch up easily.
Yesterday Amla start at a rapid rate - and De Kock played at a slower rate.   He was catching up when Amla went into slow motion and they fell behind the required run rate.  The only thing De Kock could do was to try to get the run rate up and that is when he went out.   After him came only one batter that showed anything and that was De Villiers - who went out with 4 runs more than De Kock scored.
Ag Foeitog - Mozart is deurmekaar again - the poor old man.  De Kock is caught ONCE from a ball bowled by Johnoson - now he is suddenly Johnson's bunny.  I have never he ard of a player being called a bowlers bunny - when the bowler caused him to be dismissed ONCE - what a fool we have here.

I will get crucified for this, but although he scores runs fast, and plenty to boot, AB has been getting out at the most crucial moments in games, and it cost us. He will have to work on it.

True about Amla, but he made full amends yesterday. It's time for these young buggers to perform.......enough already with the excuses.
I think your comment about not having to go out applies to both AB and to de Kock. We needed big innings from those guys if we were going to win.

De K is past the initial honeymoon.  He will improve a lot still. Chasing 300 plus, you need someone in your top 4 to bat to within 50, preferably  to the end. Amla was also at fault for relaxing after the ton.
