Rassie Erasmus has revealed that Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu has suffered a knee injury that will keep the young playmaker out of the Rugby Championship finale against Argentina.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu did not travel with the 28-player Springbok squad to Argentina for the penultimate round of the tournament, after playing in all four Rugby Championship games against the Wallabies and All Blacks.
Sacha will only be ready for the end-of-year tour with a knee injury,” Erasmus said. “He injured his knee before the first Test against the All Blacks.
“He played through it. I asked him during the next week why he was limping and he said he injured his knee last week.
“I actually really wanted to pull him out of the team because he was limping. That’s what we need the players to understand, you must be honest about injuries. Sacha is lucky we won both of those Test matches.
“He is having the operation now. I’m not exactly sure what is wrong with his knee, but he will be ready in around four to six weeks.”

Maybe Erasmus got it wrong. Shaca played most of the first test when he started and was on the bench and played at least 35 minutes since Pollard was replaced by Shaca early in the second half. During the match afer a tackle Shasa limped slightly for a few steps and he carried on like everything was fine. He completed the match - what was clear that after that Shaca missed two kicks at goal.
It must have been after the second test that problem was really identified, In matches pain does not felt until the cooling down afer the mach. If he became aware of he knee problem befoe the second test Shaca would not have been on the bench for the second AB test.
Shaca probably had he opeation already so effectively Erasmus would have become aware of it and sent him to the specialsts for immediate treatment. Probably the problem is with the knee-cap - in itself not a major problem, so he will be missing only the Argentine tests and some URC matches in Ocotber 2024.

Rassie's words when Bongi was injured in the RWC final was to get him off the field if he's not 100% as they can't afford to play with a liability. I can imagine that he's upset, especially because a star player like Sacha probably aggravated that injury by playing through it.
I do not think Rassie would have played him if he was aware of he injrury caried by Shaca. Erasmus s very roective of the players and if eh kne about Shaca carrying an injury would never have allowed him to play,.

The frst ime there were any real signs of injury was in the second test - but Sacha was not treated for anything. I seem that Shazca started limping after the second test that he has a problem and in fact showed it.

I’m in two minds about Sacha’s non communication. On the one hand he owed his coach a heads up that he was not 100%. On the other hand I love the fact that he wanted to compete. This kid never came onto the field as a newbie, he took charge. Our youngsters tend to be too respectful, Sacha took on the Irish with total confidence and he wanted a full crack at the ABs. That’s a good thing.

Ja, don't forget that Marie also coughs the ball up a lot in contact. He is a confidence player and when it goes wrong, it really goes wrong for him. Reminds a bit Elton that had all the creative play but couldn't tackle and when he got tackled, threw the ball away.
I like Sasha, but he was just called out playing with injuries. He should be careful or he will be chucked out really quickly. I wonder if Rassie will drop him or if he will stick with him.
That to me is a huge breach of trust, how can you play a game against the all blacks, knowing you injured.

Shasa is a oungster who wants to play for the Springboks at all costs. He probably got a lecture from Trump about the dangers attached to hide injuries and will learn from that decision of his. I do think he learned from what happened and it will not happen again.
What did see from Shasa is that despite the injury he performed better than Pollard did in both the tests.
In reality Pollard has already been dethroned and he is going to be around for helping and mentoring the younger players but he is unlikely to be in the 2027 WC squad,
