Saffex and Old Maaikie you are both sometimes correct but come to loggerheads about individual players...sometimes your insights are spot-on but the Frans Steyn and Silky Hands espisodes were completely bulldust...a lot of deceiving half truths. Old Maaik, who I've got the got the greatest respect, and an officer and gentleman, for although he is eccentric in his autumn feathers is a great analyst but sometimes does not see the great composer Mozart's ( a lovely subtle wit) view...I still believe there is a twisted respect there. Did your son not meet Van der Merwe - or saw him when his school team played Outeniqua - maybe he knows more to what to expect from him than you and me.
There were other Outeniqua players your son might got acquainted with or know about. Anything he told you about any?

The top sport schools in South Africa now has sponsorships from businesses in their service area investing very substantial investment in the school sport - especially rugby - in certain schools. The schools go around and select players from the whole franchise region and pays their full education costs, as well as board and lodging costs - if necessary - as well as costs attached to coaching and professional advice and special dietary requirements - from those sponsorships.
Outeniqua is one of those schools and because there are so many very wealthy individuals in the holiday and local business fields the sponsorship in their case runs into more than R1 000 000 - or that at least that is what I have heard. What I saw was a bill board at the school showing at least 30 names of major sponsors benefitting the school.
