Three months ago you swore that Francois Steyn is the only backline player with automatic selection to the Springbok backline. The doubters were seriously abused in writing by you as being stupid, uninformed and talking shit. Now - not a word about the celebrated Steyn - who was an automatic selection to the Springbok team? What has happened - or did you now realize that Steyn was partly responsible for the dead backline syndrome that bedevilled the Springbok backline in 2012? You are getting there - the next player where weaning is desperately needed is Hougaard - will take some time - but may also be there in four months time or so. And then there is Kolisi - who is better than Francois Louw - also a case of serious brain deficiency I would think. Just one suggestion - bring the slow Francois Steyn into the present Bok backline and the whole scenario will be back to the dead backline syndrome of the past - he will make absolutely sure of that.

Blixem, but this is getting boring. I am in no way defending the guy. We all know that he is quite capable of doing that himself. Having said that, you are hellbent on starting a thread ever so often to launch another boring attack on where SAffex got it wrong. And then shortly after that your following jump in to share in the laughs. Why don't you start a thread acknowledging that Saffex was correct about JJ Engelbrecht? Of course you will come up with your feeble argument about his "poor defence".

Appart from Engelbrecht, there were two other players who Saffex punted long before they even played for the Stormers. They were a certain Eben Etzebeth and Rynhardt Elstadt.

How many players have you identified as youngsters before anybody really took any notice of them?

For the record, I very often disagree with Saffex and we sometimes have some very heated debates.

Ceradyne There was no necessity to start a thread on JJ Engelbrecht - started one and I already responded on that one. I have also said in the past that Saffex is vey good in identifying youngsters as potential future contenders for test selections and I stick with what I said in the past. However, Saffex has one minor problem - once he believes he has identified such a young player - he sees nothing wrong in the performances of such a player and then keep on harping on that player - I call it his pedestal players - and cannot see that the .relevant playersare not developing to advance their early promise. I was the first person who wrote a string of threads about De Allende on this site - so that is one name that come to mind. I also identified Reinach very early when he started playing for the Sharks and wrote of his future before anyone else did so. So your accusation of not identifying players is not really based on fact. I like to make fun with Saffex in that regard and I believe it represents freedom of speech to do just that.

You are the exact opposite, but with the same principle. Once you have decided that a player or a coach is not good enough, he remains useless, no matter what.

Mike before you wet your pants, I simply forgot about Frans given he is not playing at the moment. He remains firmly a favourite of mine. My stance on him has not changed at all, in fact it never will. He proved many years ago that he is a class test player and having just turned 26, he has many good years in him yet. As for Hougaard, he is by far our best prospect at 9 and my stance will never change on that. The other 9's are good players but none have his spark with ball in hand. As for Kolisi he has been great at both S15 and Test level, with Brussouw off the Japan, Kolisi is my firm favourite for the Bok 6 spot

Rugganut, you talk total rubbish about Saffex and to say his a mullet is complete nonsense.

A mullet is when the hair is short on top and long at the back. Saffex's is long all over. It's more of a bob, if you really want to talk hairdressing terminology !!!

Its more of a bob you say Becs. Do you mean a bun? Its best to be accurate on these maters as even an inch or two here makes a difference when snaspters involved!

Kolisi at 6 . hahahahahaha now that is funny - Kolisi right now is better than Louw - how absurd.

Hougaard - well snapster he is talented but his mind is shot. Somebody needs to try and put him together again. If they find that somebody you do the same!!!

By the way snaspter I was disappointed you didnt warn us the Baby Boks scrum was so bad - or did you? What a wake up call.

No, Beeno, I don't mean a bun. I mean a bob. A bun is where the hair is worn up at the back or top of the head. Saffex tends to wear his hair loose.....I'll ask him if I can plait it next time I see him if you'd like ? Or maybe put some clips in ? !!

Saffex I am in full agreement with Beeno in the case of Kolisi - he is one-dimensional, tackles well, cn carry the ball for short distances - but other aspects of his game is seriously defective. In the latter regard he is no asset insofar as breakdown ball recovery is concerced. He is not a link player and I have never seen him passing a ball, his ball skills are at times questionable and he cannot link up with other players - especially also backline players to take attacks further. Has a lot of development to do before he can be considered as a test level loosie. He was very average in Super 15 and I believe a BEE beneficiary. You can't possibly be serious with thinking of Steyn at inside center. He will totally destroy the speed of the backline - he is slow in speed and even though he rarely passes balls - more often going into crashballing - his passing is slow and ineffective as well. With him in that backline the dead backline syndrome will be back in earnest. Better get away from that one as far as possible. Hougaard is not going to ever make the grade unless what Beeno said should happen - is in fact going to happen. If his last Super 15 game is borne in mind all the deficiencies he had last year - is still very much in evidence. I do not think any of the three players should be near the team especially not in the backline - where Steyn and Hougaard would cause damage to any attacking move potential.

What you and Beenkop have to say about Kolisi is complete hogwash. Kolisi is a gem. Has real strength for a 102kg lad. He has that ability to break the first tackle, is always looking to get involved and he is big in the tackle.

Kolisi is here to stay and rightly so. I also note that he is learning the art of the turnover, the lad is adding one or two a game these days. My choices at 6 for the Boks would be Kolisi or Brussouw. I would not have been an idiot like Meyer and snubbed Brussouw.

As for Frans, no I would not start him at 12, that spot is Serfonteins. Frans would be one of my 3 centres - they would be Serfontein, Frans and JJ. Frans would be my bench centre unless he started playing like he did in his first two S15 games of the season, in which case he would push for the starting spot at 12. Its complete and utter bullshit that he would slow the backline down at 12 - what crap. Frans is a class act and one of my favourites. A fit Frans is a must in my Bok 23.

As for Hougaard having an issue this year, again complete and utter hogwash. Hougaard has been fine this year, its just a pity the damn injury got in the way of him finding that zip again. A fit Hougaard walks my team at 9. The bench spot would be between v/Zyl and Reinach.

Injuries aside my Bok squad of 40 would be:

15. Le Roux / Taute / Lambie

14/11. JP / Habana / Rhule / v/d Heever / Mvovo

13/12. Frans / JJ / Serfontein / Taute / de Allende

10. Goosen / Lambie / Jantjies

9. Hougaard / v/Zyl / Reinach

1/3. Beast / Coenie / Marcel v/d Merwe / Kitshoff / Nkanyane / Malherbe

2. Bismark / Chiliboy / Strauss

4/5. Etzebeth / Steph du Toit / de Jager / Willemse / J du Plessis

6/7/8. CJ Stander / A.Botha / Kolisi / Louw / Brussouw / Labascagne / Coetzee / Elstadt / v/d Walt

Saffex In the tests last year Francois Steyn played in - he showed nothing insofar as attacking backline play is concerned. Matter of fact - he was crashballing circa 60% of the balls he received - kicked away circa 10% of the balls and only pass the ball 30% of the time. The Springbok backline was as dead as a doornail and even in the cases where they did score tries Steyn had been involved in only one try - the charge-down try against Agentina In Mendoza. In the other 7 tries the Springboks scored Steyn was not involved in the backline moves leading to the tries at all - did not collect neither pass the balls ONCE. Incidentally of the 7 other tries scored - 2 was by Habana and 2 by Pietersen - all four the results of individual brilliance. The other three tries were scored by Hougaard (1) and forwards (2) Even though against weaker opposition - thus far this season the Springboks scored 15 tries - 11 by backline players and 4 by forwards. This showed that in the three tests this year the Boks sored virtually double the number of tries scored if compared with the measly try-scoring performance of last year in 6 tests Steyn played in. Other than the 4 tries scored by Habana and Pietersen - all the result of individual brilliance - the backline was for all intents and purposes dead as a doornail insofar as attacking rugby is concerned. Part of the problem was Morne Steyn's constant kicking away of useable balls and Francois' crashballing. This year crashballing was limited to the minimum and speed played a major role. Granted they have one advantage the backline did not have last year - namely the ball sense and brilliant ball handing by Le Roux - who played a critical role in 5 of the 9 backline tries scored this year. The critical question is - will Steyn fits into such a speedy backline effectively? All indications are to the negative. Even when Steyn was in space in Super 15 this year - he ran into traffic and did not pass the ball - or kicked the ball away aimlessly. I am afraid that Steyn will just not fit into the new style the Springboks got into by the accidental selection of Le Roux. I say accidental - because Meyer's intention was to select Kirchner - and only at the last moment changed his mind because of Kirchner's absence through injury and his dismal form in his returning Super 15 game. After the first test Kirchner's return was impossible and Meyer will be crucified if he endeavours to get him back in the frame As to Hougaard - he was dropped last year because of service deficiencies - his slow and hesitant passing game and his dismal kicking performance - especially relieving kicks. The same problems are still very much in evidence. Maybe t was the result of the persistent knee injury - but we will have to see what his form is like after his recovery. It is unlikely that he would be available for test selection this year and we will have to see what happens in Super 15 next year. My own guess is by then both Van Zyl would have stronger claims on the scrummie position than Hougaard.

DomMike, I am not going to bother reading your complete and utter shit when it comes to class acts like Frans and Hougaard.

Two treasures in Bok rugby, only a rugby ignoramus would think otherwise.......should I ask the question - how stupid are you Domdom?

Saffex Back to the dunce response - when you cannot dispute facts - you get insulting. Why are the two players "treasures" if that is not backed up by high level performance? In both cases over the last year there was very little signs of such performances - whether you like it or not. If the performance problems are solved - yes they can fit in. But Steyn would have to do a lot of speed training to get anywhere near requirements. And Hougaard would have to do something nearly impossible - get ball sense which is normally not enhanced through coaching but more on natural instinctive play and reading of the game.

No DomMike you don't have the rugby intelligence to challenge me. My lack of response is solely due to the fact that I cant be bothered to read your ignorant shit when it comes to Hougaard, Frans and Kolisi. Its that simple. If I respected your rugby views, I might have dedicated some time to responding to your ignorant points. I trust you get the picture?

Saffex You ignorant twit - you cannot dispute anything relating to player performances and that is it. You make out you are a fundi - but everyone knows you are not. You are just a bigoted and prejudiced idiot that cannot debate issues on a reasonable and motivated basis. End of story - but in the long run we will see who are correct and who is wrong. Lay a bet you are - and then you would go into another mantra - with the shit flowing like lava from your mouth - Meyer is stupid and cannot see the value of your "treasures". Funny - nobody else seems to see it too.

Spooony I have met Saffex personally and actually like the guy a lot. However, I like to needle him a lot and sometimes both of us takes it a bit overboard. Despite what is reflected on the Board - I actually respect his point of view very much and he is very good in identifying younger players coming through the junior ranks. If you want to make him really mad - go for his favoured players - like Francois Steyn, Hougaard and Kolisi - I enjoy the subsequent discussion a heck of a lot.

Spooony I am lucky - I am not a Bulls supporter as such. I am a Shark supporter - with a sneaky regard for the - * Cheetahs because of their style in playing rugby; and * Stormers - since I came from the Southern Cape and my family has always been WP supporters. When the Bulls play against any foreign team - I am a strong supporter of them.

Not that I do not like the Bulls but there is just no reasoning with their supporters cause they can't see past the gates of Loftus
