Mike, sorry to burst your bubble, but a flawed technique does not get you almost 10 000 runs at an average of almost 50. Being opener and captain as well makes it all the more phenomenal. All batsman goes through a dip of form or a lack of runs some time. Amla is in the same boat ATM. Do you want to drop him as well? Graeme is the best captain in world cricket ATM with no apparent replacement at this time. He has more backbone than the rest of the team combined. Please stop flaunting your ignorance.

Smith is getting on. Dro p him down the order to 6.
Get rid of the ever failimng Duming. He is reaching last chance saloon. How long does one wait? Its a bit like snapsters infatuation with Hougaard.

Smith has always had a batting flaw....so does Faf, so does Amla and de kok is hardly Classical, starting with his stance. The point is, does he function as an opener and captain. I'd say there is little doubt on the captaincy score. Batting wise, he played a poor shot today....but his dismissals in the first test were unlucky. So no selectors would be willing to act yet....he is here for the series, let's see how he goes in the next few innings.
