Its amazing how this guy who was player of the year last year, goes to the Waratahs and ends up becoming the third choice scrum half. He would have been even more spectacular at the Cheetahs this year if he stayed. Imagine Pretorius and Goosen...great stuff.

Did he sign on for Waratahs for next year again....anybody know?

Yeah, that was a very bad move on his part. Probably looked good at the time, because he kept on being overlooked for the Springboks, so no loss chasing the big bucks over in OZ. Hopefully he'll come back here and get a starting place with one of the big unions.

I'd love to have him at the Shark tank... If there was some imagination in Plumtree/Struali's head, they would have their first choice backline looking like this:

9. Sarel Pretorius

10. Retief Goosen

11. Lwazi Mvovo

12. Frans Steyn

13. Paul Joordaan

14. JP

15. Lambie

This backline combined with a potent, Springbok laden forward pack and the right game-plan, would place my Sharkies in a very favourable position in the Super and Currie cup comps.

No he has a glaring weakness, his pass is pathetic, hence finding himself as third choice

Saffex

Not so fast on this one - if you please.   Pretorius really was good last year - I never saw any evidence of poor passing by him - and I assumed he got a good contract from the Waratahs.   However, the Waratahs was crap thie year and Pretorius may have been subject to a poor coach and the animosity felt by many Australians against South Africa.

be is as it may - he does not play well at present and made a mistake by going to Australia.

Hmmmm.... Imagination indeed... Why destroy the whole backline by using a golfer at 10 :-P

Damn, now we will never get to see Retief Goosen on a rugby field.

Wrong Mike the very reason they dropped him was because his service was so crap and I have witnessed that myself, they guy has a very weak pass. He was the one that said he had never worked on his passing in SA and that it was something he was working on now as its been highlighted as a weakness

Strange one that because the only weakness he showed when he was at the Cheetahs was in his defense. Still, i'd prefer to see him back in Bloem where the gameplan suits his style...running, all out attacking rugby.

Yes running is his strength, but a 9's primary function is distribution, where he has been found seriously wanting
