I looked at the rules of the above site and came to the conclusion that you can only make 4 changes to your selected squad during the whole series.   That is minimal and one have to bsically ignore the first round and only look at the Aussie players you want to continue with thereafter.  

I left only two Australian Round 1 players in the squad - namely Ben Alexander and James O'Connor.

The other issue is that you can for instance have two flyhalfs in the squad - obviously if they play for different franchises - and need not necessarily have one flyhalf and one scrummie.   You need to have at least three  cheap playes around to stay within budget - otherwise selection is seriously problematic.

You can perhaps change one of those two players later in the season and keep a healthy balance of funds for that purpose in the bank.    For instance - I may want to bring in Bismarck at a later stage - but you must make sure that you have sufficent money to cover that posibility.  The four transfers may be a very tricky exercise.

Am I correct in what I am saying?

Ou Maaik, you get plenty of trades. You were looking at what they call "emergency trades" where you can actually use real cash to buy extra trades. Extra trades should never be necessary as you get given regular trades throughout the competition. The allocation of trades is as follows:

Round 5 - 20 Trades

Round 9 - 20 Trades

Round 13 - 20 Trades

Round 17 - 20 Trades

Round 19 - 25 Trades

That's a total of 105 trades for the whole tournament.

Unlike some of these other FR comps, you are not limited to a set number of trades per round but you still need to use them wisely as you don't have things like reserves so you need to try have a valid starting XV every week. I generally sell any player who has a bye and then buy him back the following week. The trades generally cover you for that strategy but injuries can mean you run out of trades at some stage . . . but you only have to wait a week or two and you get a new allocation of trades.

This year's comp is a bit awkward with only Aussie teams playing in the opening round (and later on, all the Aussie teams having byes for two consecutive weeks) but my advice, don't worry too much about running out of trades and pick the players you want for each game week. I'm going all Aussies for round 1 and then I'll pick the players I really want for round 2, so I'll be using plenty trades early on and hoping my players don't get injured. If I make it to round 5 when I get another 20 trades, I should be okay.

Yes, you will always need a few cheapos if you're going to stay in budget but there is some very good value to be had if you look around at all the teams.

The other nice thing about the TestRugby comp is that you're not limited to any number of players from a single team and you can pick a whole team of Sharks if you like.

Thank you very much for your advice - it really helps a lot.   I would have to change my whole selection once again to get it right.   I also assume that you get 20 trades after round 1 as well - so that could be problematic.  There is likely only 2 ot 3 Aussies I would carry on through to round 2 - so about 50% of the trades will go after week one..   Leaving a limited number for the next three rounds.

Just one question remains - can a person for instance put in both Goosen and Lambie as halfbacks or are you restricted to play one scummie and one flyhalf as HB's?   I also think that James O.Connor will rather play at center than wing - so I assume that he is playing at center he would still get points for performances?

Read what's on the site ... trades are given at certain intervals as explained above. You have to manage them properly or sit without any trades till the next allotment is dished out.

That could cost you.

My apologies, Mike. It seems you’ve given it a bit of thought and that spoon feeding you is not necessary.

Forgive the tone.

The trick to the game (my opinion) is to get the best possible players into your side as quickly as possible. That takes coin. Thus trading players right from the onset is important.

One has to do this wisely though. Buy low and sell high. It is however not as simple as that for only the players that are in high demand go up in value and you have to select them as early as possible.

You do not want to sit with a chump that loses value. You end up having difficulty selling him later.

The players that score the highest points go up in value rather rapidly. Obviously. You need to figure out who they are and get them into your squad pronto.

In the front row for example … it is always better to select a hooker as he scores points for scrums won as well as for his lineout feed.

They also tend to be a little more mobile than a prop.

At halfback one should look toward a goal kicker and they are usually wearing the 10 jersey. See where I’m going?

Same goes for a lock. I tend to look toward a 5 lock rather than a 4 lock as the 5 lock is usually more of a target in the line out than the 4 lock.

Do yourself a favour and go have a look see at what play scores points and then analyze and select accordingly.

Ou Maaik, to put it simply, you start off with 20 trades and you'll get another 20 trades after round 5 and another 20 trades after round 9 etc . . . so yes, you will be able to transfer unwanted Force, Reds, Rebels and Brumbies players out after the first round.

As to your second question, flyhalves and scrumhalves are both in the "Half" category and yes, you can pick two flyhalves, just as you can pick two hookers, because props and hookers both fall under "Front Row". Most experienced FR managers pick flyhalves who also kick at goal rather than scrumhalves . . . although be warned, it quite often happens that scrumhalves outscore the more popular flyhalves in FR. But yes, you can pick both Pat Lambie and Dan Carter in your side if you like (and if you can afford them) and not play a scrumhalf at all.

Hmmmmm so you dont need to pick a scrummie but can have two flyhalves  in your side. No wonder its called fantasy rugby!

Thanks for the valuable advice.  Will follow that one.   One can obviously only choose a certain number of $1 million plus players and some are very, vry expensive.   

I am going to use a different strategy as part of the broader scenario and forget about the Superstars like Dan Carter and will only consider players in the lower cost category.   I will also picjk some rookies that I think can drastically increase in value - that is if they make the starting line up for the various franchises.   Players like Serfontein and Du Toit are serious considerations.   If selected and they play well - their value can only increase by leaps and bounds.  

Interestng what you said about picking two hookers - will have to have reserve funds to get Bismarck in as soon as he starts playing.    Meantime I can find another hooker and leave out the props.

Also will pick quite a number of relatively inexpensive players from the Western Force and Rebels teams since both are rather weak and could build up on the points side.   The players from the Rebels and Brumbies are relatively expensive.

it seems like different tactics need to be applied when manging ur team, i like the two flyhalves rule though, foxsport has only made flyhalf exclusive in 2013, the other years it was regarded as an inside back, so i would regularly have cruden, carter and SBW with goosen/leilafano on the bench, earned me some nice points.

the transfers are differnt and ur right mike, we will use the majority of them for rnd 2, think i prefer foxspot, just cause u can pick 15 players, but im liking this one alot too.

There is one issue you missed out on.   The problem apparently is that the value of a player changes substantially as times go on.  The chances are that a lower cost player has a better chance of increasing in value - which is to the members benefit - whilst the high-cost players may stay static or even decline in value.

In general on both sites I find the value of New Zealan players are vvery high - while SA players are far lower.  In view of the number of local derbies and the fact that some teams do not travel well - it seems to me it is advisable to find the lower cost players that can increase in value on the Test Rugby Site and work from there.   You will probably be more aware of the value players costing less who are in teh New Zealand squads - while I am possibly more tuned in as to SA PLaters and their potential impact on games.

Mind you I think you often enough trump the groupies here as to knowledge of players.   I would for instance never have picked Doppies la Grange - yet you said he was one of your better point-scoring selections.

I have a problem.   I have joined the site years ago and found that out when I applied for membeship and put my e-mail address in - the site refused to accept my new membership application and on request sent me my pass word.

Problem is I do not remember what name I used originally and since I never posted teams since originally admitted to membership - I really do not know which name I used.   Probably was something that has Mike or Michael in somehow.    Any suggestions?

First round = 4 Ozzie teams going at it.

There are sufficient players of quality within the 4 to tide me over for a round or three.

No doubt I'll make a few trades ... however managing my trades is vital for the latter stages. They're like gold and need to be looked after.

20 trades leaves me with around 4 - 5 trades a week.

Save one here and there and the next thing you have 6 - 7 trades you can play with if need be.
