Dud Allende lost the English test with one of the worst defensive decisions ever.
Not even Moses created a bigger gap than Dud.
Delande made one good pass. The other one was a routine pass to Kolisi who setup the try for Mapimpi
- Routine left short pass, straight line, easy pass. Not scoring pass
- Dud, stands deep, calling for it, no real movement, or dummy line running to compress the defence. Two great passes by Jantjies and Am with very quick hands.
- This one I would give him credit, he created space wide, took on a defender, hand off and then got the ball away. Mpimpi does really well to catch a dipping pass, not the cleanest but that was a 50/50 pass that could have been dropped.
The boks play very direct and Dud is great for that. He can punch holes into backlines and create opportunities for line breaks. But I still think if he could pass or even have a half the off load game of Sonny Bill, he would be lethal.
I know back in 2015 he was our best back and even better than Sonny Bill or Nonu.
As for Mpimpi, somebody on here called him an athlete. That is true, he is a great finishers, running a straight line down the trams. Can beat the defender out wide.
Terrible marking and defender. Okay under the high ball, better at chasing and putting pressure on the catcher.
If a player like Mapimpi is on the pitch, they need to go wide. He is a fantastic finisher, and actually has a strike rate higher than Habana's.
Although in tight games he can go missing in action.
You see..... even I can see the love in this thread.....
Ha ha ha !
A total cock up which luckily was saved by Mapimpi…Dud should have fixed his man, and relied on Kolisi to do the same. Then there was an overlap.
He ran sideways, forcing Kolisi to switch inside and then he threw a blatantly forward pass….the ball was released outside the 22 and caught several steps inside the 22 by Mapimpi straining to catch a low ball well ahead of him.
And the ball was clearly released forward technically.
All the credit for that ‘try’ goes to Kolisi who made a splendid pick up at pace…..but it should have been called back.
And I’m talking about the third try. Totally a forward pass….the ball left his hand before the 22, easily seen by stopping the action. Mapimpi after taking a full stride into the 22 has to reach way forward to collect it with one hand.
A completely bungled try rescued by the inept ref and TMO. The last try required nothing more than the first try…drawing two defenders and allowing an unmarked Mapimpi to trot in.
Kingcorn, DDA was better than SBW and Nonu in 2015???
Are you serious??
Who was it then that stood DDA up and scored in the RWC semi final??
Could have sworn it was Nonu......
DDA is not even in the same street as those 2........
Dave even if everything you said is true….the pass was still forward. If the ball is released one handed from an arm fully extended and blocked by a competitor it’s very hard to pass back. Dud clearly didn’t.
I can say it was forward. Press the stop button….by making small shifts you can see the pass left his hand before the 22 and was caught 2 metres inside the 22
"...see the pass left his hand before the 22 and was caught 2 metres inside the 22"
doesn't mean it's forward...depends on how fast they were running...it's all to do with the movement of the hands.
Yes once in a Blue Moon DDA does create something.....he should try and do that more the least a person can expect of a 12.
Movement out of the hand was forward…try passing it back when the ball is in one hand and the arm stretched full forward. Besides a ball doesn’t drift forward 2.5 metres on 5 metres pass. By analogy a 20 metre pass would then drift forward 10 metres by that logic. Ever seen one of those not called?
It was a forward pass missed by the officials.
