went and saw "Churchill" last night, had no idea that Smuts who is referred to as Field Marshall Smuts was tied to Churchill's hip, one could say an adjutant acting as his driver and advisor. Are you upto speed on that bit of history?

Den I recently read a book on Churchill's experiences in South Africa called Hero of the Empire, by Candice Millard....it cast him in a better light than we always believed. She is a Pulitzer Prize winning author and seems to have researched the whole thing carefully. I also recently read a book on South African soldiers in WW1, in which Louis Botha is presented as the real heavyweight. It's called The Great Silence, by Tom Cousins, and has interesting chapters on the SWA campaign. .. Smuts comes up in both books, but not his relationship with Churchill, which is news to me. Is this a movie or a play? .. I would recommend both books by the way.

Field Marshall Smuts was educated in the UK and was a lawyer by profession.

Jan Smuts was a Boer war hero during the British wars in South Africa. He gained fame as an excellent hit and run military tactician and was elevated to General status for his action and bravery. 
Prior to 1910, he was instrumental in having SA accepted into the British Empire. He was the SA general who during WW1 and WW2 assisted the British and Commonwealth effort with SA troops and was elevated to Field Marshall during that period.
He was one of the original signators who formed the UN.
In 1948 he lost the national SA election to the Nationalist Pary and died in 1950 in Irene in the Transvaal.
Now, pray tell me what he did wrong to have u make a statement such as he was referred to as Field Marshall and one could say an adjutant acting as his(Churchill) driver and adviser.
Not only is it disrespectful to Field Marshall Smuts but to all who served and died under his command.
My wife's grandfather and my grandfather both lost their lives during WW2. Unfortunately, at the school, u attended in District 6 they did not teach u about SA history or respect but only about the Cape Coon Carnival and some of the toothless Skollies achievements in and around Cape Town as thugs.
U and Mozart are on friendly terms and surely have each other's email and phone numbers but what do u do. You go out of your way to inflame the average SA by logging such a sly (innocent u will claim) posting on a HERO  and great statesman to many.
You continually slip in sly hits to inflame and infuriate many whites with your racist and disrespectful against everything white agenda.
The folks on this site are sportsmen/women and not here to debate racial bigotry that u forever divert the conversation too.
If u detest and hate the whites as much as u do what are u doing in Australia. There are many countries that u could have moved to that are controlled by non-whites or whatever u support.

 I think AJ thought it was implied that JS was WC's man servant ir something.  I don't think the comments can be construed as degrading towards JS.

Agreed Draad. I understood what D posted to put Smuts in a positive light. 

 I have no intentions of dignifying Farters post with a response, it deserves the utmost contempt but the only thing I will say is that the story told was a revelation to me and I was mightily chuffed that South Africa was held in high esteem and represented alongside such greats as Churchill, Montgomery and Eisenhower at a war which determined life as we know it.
