Saying 'Hello'

Just wanted to give a quick introduction, being new. Deny asked me to come and give an American perspective so here I am reporting for duty.

I have been playing rugby since high school here in the states including college (uni) and now at the men's club level. I have mostly played wing/fullback but am currently a poor excuse for a fly-half.

I'll pop in from time to time and try to keep my bragging about the two-time defending Olympic Gold Medalists to a minimum.

If you have specific questions about rugby in America, please put either 'America' or 'Yank' in the subject of the post so I can skim older posts quickly to reply to them. Otherwise, I'll stick to topics from the last couple of days to give my 2 cents.

All that being said, you can call me Yank.

Welcome to the asylum for frustrated rugby lovers.   You will find at times that members get quite hot around the collar mostly about players and their valuation of them.

There are various competitions called fantasy rugby going as well.   In this there are series like the 6 Nations and Super 15 where you select players based on what you believe will be the top players every week,   Sound easy - but a participant gets an allocation of funds and must "buy" players and you cannot purely put in all the top players since the budget will not allow for it.  You can change players weekly, but the number of changes are restricted.  

That being said - all teams are listed on site and there will be lots of correspondence as to "selections",   Have a look at it and see whether you want to join up and compete.    

US based news on rugby matters will be interesting and feel free to tell us what is going on the rugby front there.  There are in fact a number of SA supporters living in the US - mostly ex-South Africans residing in the States,  Mozart, F lashdakota and Arizona are some of those.     

 Welcome aboard Yank, I'm sure everyone will welcome our first American to visit the Forum. For a moment there I'd thought you'd let me down so thanks for keeping your promise. Just a quick run down, our rugby family comprises of a fair few South Africans, Kiwis( pesky lot) a Canadian, an Ozzie and quite a number of expat South Africans scattered around the globe. There's hope that another American will be joining(there's strength in numbers ) and there's hope that in time we'll have posters from the four home unions which will make us a truly international rugby family.

Also, I'm sure everyone would love to know about your love for the game, the state of the game in the States and where you think the game is going in the face of traditional American sports?

Fireaway about your love for the game and whether it will grow in your neck of the woods. Years ago the Australian Rugby League tried to kickstart League by promoting a few games in small backwater stadiums and handed out freebie tickets. Nothiing eventuated and the idea soon died. Union I've noticed has gone a different route and seems far better structured.

 Nothing has come of Rugby League in the States?? Denny you such a dumbarse Egg on Face haha...

Ever heard of the Tomahawks that beat France at the recent WC ?

US is in the top 10 rugby league nations FYI ...

Qualified by beating the South African Rhinos 40-4

and then Jamaica 40 -4...

...then upset Wales and the Cookies ( Cook Is) to finish top of their pool ...

Even the Aussie Wiggles got behind the team...
