SBW saw red against the Lions for turning his shoulder into a player who was being double tackled. On Saturday Aki did exactly the same thing, Daily was being tackled low and Aki stuck his shoulder into Daily. But unlike the SBW incident the player never dipped into the tackle. So in SBW's case it was shoulder to head....in Bundee's case it was head to head. And that seemed to be the logic that got Aki out of jail with a penalty but no card. So is head to head less dangerous than shoulder to head.....and surely the intent was exactly the same. In one case it's a match destroying red....in the other just an oops. This kind of inconsistency in rugby, sprouted with absolute authority, is infuriating. If that was a Springbok and not Aki in an Irish jumper I guarantee you he would have been lucky to get a yellow.

As far as I can remember the SBW incident resulted in a tip tackle with the tackled player hitting the ground head first.  I do not recollect that the Bundee Aki incident having had the same result/

Oom Mike, I think Mozart is talking about the B&I Lions test series.

@Mozart.

Later in the game I think it's Ringrose with a shoulde r to Daly's head. I might be mistaken on the Irish player.

I know which incident Mozart is referring to as described above and I think the problem was not only the shoulder-charge by SBW but the consequential tip tackle.   Tip tackles where the head /neck hit the ground first is virtually an assured red card.   

Any shoulder charge to the head or neck area should be at least a penalty and yellow card.   If that did not happen the ref could in terms of their procedural rules be in trouble with the World Rugby Referee Evaluation Committee or the player could be identified by the disciplinary official as a potential dangerous incident with banning the result.

The second did not happen and the first issue would never be made public by the Committee  - which to my mind is a serious problem,

There was no tip tackle Tokkie, only a shoulder charge just like Aki: 'Watson was in the process of being tackled by Waisake Naholo and Williams came in with his shoulder. The contact was to Watson's head and there was no evidence of him using his arms.'

Anyway I do not recall the incident -so I may be thinking of anther one.

However,  SBW got a bit of his own medicine on Saturday when he landed on his backside after a failed tackle attempt (it happened when he missed one of the four tackles he actually missed) - the look on his face was really funny.
