Exactly =  SARU is suddenly the villain of the piece.  If there is anything in writing about "promises" then Steyn have every right in taking them to court for breach of promise,  If it was just verbal then Steyn could still take them to court - but the argument would be around performance and there were serious deficiencies in the latter regard.  He was paid a fortune running into millions for two years and produced very little in fact  He was poor in 2012 and since then injuries took him out in total for nearly 10 months.  He then came back this year and his performances range around the average bar - in 2013 way below par and this year statistically iffy - wore than any 12 in Super 15 in any SA team.        

Draad I think you will find the contract is just the backdrop....in sports as in business there are many informal understandings.

 Most of hom are based on performance and if that is absent - the undertakings is meaningless.  In Steyn's case the performances were absent - so any informal undertakings would not be hounored.
