The final round of Super Rugby is upon us and, like last year, everything is still up in the air about who will finish where. The only certainty is the Waratahs will finish on top of the ladder.

This weekend will see four massive games. Blues versus Chiefs, Brumbies versus Force, Crusaders versus Highlanders and Stormers versus Sharks.

Hurricanes have a bye but they will know their fate on Friday night after the first two games. It might even happen after the first game.

They need a Blues victory over a low-scoring Chiefs and the loser of the Brumbies versus Force game to get no bonus points to be safe. Anything less and they are gone.

Blues have an almost impossible scenario. They need a win and that win needs to be by 39 points or more, with four tries. They also need the loser of the Brumbies and Force game to get no bonus points. That would be enough to see them sneak into sixth spot.

The Chiefs need a win, a draw or a loss with two bonus points to jump over the Hurricanes. Anything less and they will miss out. Even with a draw or loss with two bonus points and they can still miss out if the loser of the Brumbies versus Force game get two bonus points as well.

A win guarantees a finals spot, but anything less and they will face a tense two hours waiting for other results.

The Brumbies and Force can both qualify, and the winner of this game is in. If it’s a draw and the Chiefs don’t win they both get through. If the Chiefs lose and don’t get two bonus points and the Brumbies versus Force loser gets a bonus point they are both in.

If the Chiefs win and it’s a draw, both teams can still make it, provided the Highlanders lose and get no bonus points.

The Crusaders have qualified. If they get one bonus point they top the New Zealand conference. If they lose by more than seven to the Highlanders and the Highlanders score four tries then they will lose the conference.

The worst case scenario for them is finishing fourth, and their main battle could be for second place with the Sharks. Currently there are eight points difference between the side, and this could be crucial in the final wash up. If they win by five for example, the Sharks will need to win by 14 or more.

If the Highlanders win with a four-try bonus and keep the Crusaders from getting a bonus point they win the New Zealand conference. If they get one bonus point they won’t finish out of the finals. If they lose with no bonus points, they are out if the Chiefs win and the Brumbies and Force get two points.

The Sharks have the benefit of knowing exactly what they need to do to beat the Crusaders or potentially Highlanders into second place. They can’t finish worse than third but they need to finish higher than the New Zealand conference winner to gain second place. If that is the Crusaders then the eight-point differential comes right into play.

These are the scenarios. This is how I think the results might play out

Blues will roll the Chiefs. The Chiefs have not been good on the road this season and the Blues at home is almost as tough as the Waratahs at home. I think the Chiefs might scratch a bonus point out of the game and slide into sixth spot but fail to pass the Hurricanes.

Brumbies will win at home and lock in a finals spot. Force will scrape a bonus point and dump the Chiefs out of the finals.

The Crusaders will beat the Highlanders and win the New Zealand conference with a four-try bonus. The Highlanders will lock in fifth position and secure an away final to the Brumbies Week 1.

The Sharks will fall to the Stormers, who have gone 160 minutes at home without conceding a point.

This is how I think the finals will work out.

Week 1
Sharks versus Force
Brumbies versus Highlanders

Week 2
Waratahs versus Brumbies
Crusaders versus Sharks

Final
Waratahs versus Crusaders

Interesting predictions. Chiefs get rolled by the Blues I hope he is wrong on that one.
Saders beat the sharks (possible of sharks are not allowed to use the ploy of playing with 13 men)
I agree the Tahs will be hard to beat.

 JW - nice effort
If the Sharks survive th game against the Western Force and have to play the Crusaders - it is game over for the Crusaders.    Remember they cannot beat the Sharks in Christchurch - when the Sharks had to play them with 14 men throughout virtually the whole game.   That made the Crusaders look very- very sick.
The Crsaders may just get lucky and do not have to play McCaw - if he plays the Crusaders have already lost the game.

McCaw sets such a high standard (within the rules) that the refs feel they must rise to the occassion & demand the high standards from our good mate Bismarck and others. It usually results in a yellow card for the poor wee chap.

I wouldent say Saders cant beat Sharks based on one freak result, remember in 2011 Saders rolled the Stormers with 13 players. So apart from irony, dont see how this prooves Saders cant beat Sharks, i mean if anything considering their struggle againgst the cheetahs ill say its the complete oppossite. Anyway im picking Blues to win, and as im a Canes supporter Chiefs well fail to get a BP , considering the Chiefs lack of consistency, and lack of gamebreakers they only wan 24-16,.where as with the same dominane and officiating , Canes wan 45-8. I think Blues well step up and win by 10 points. I think Brumbies well win by 15. And force well fail to get a Bp.
1. Waratahs2. Saders3. Sharks4. Highlanders5. Brumbies6. Canes
Sharks V Canes Durban
Highlanders V Brumbies DunidenSemi
Crusaders V Highlanders
Tahs V Canes
FinalSaders V Canes
Yes im a dreamer

You mean McCaw?   He was not good in the last Crusaders -  Sharks game and look out of sorts in other games as well - becoming a penalty machine lately.   As a Shark supporter I would be delighted if he does play.     Rather him than Todd.

 3ku1,
I think there are many possibilities for the Canes of entering the finals and beeing the final ladder as you said:

1. Waratahs2. Saders3. Sharks4. Highlanders5. Brumbies6. Canes

And then anything can happen in a qualifying round played in an only match. And although I could see them winning in Durban against a very tired Sharks team, (specially their front row after playing almost the entire 80 minutes for the entire competition and the international matches which is a suicide with the new scrumagging rules) I cannot see them winning in Sidney. I would like to see a Saders-Canes final but there are very few possibilities of this to happen IMO. But to dream is pleasant and free...

@mike,
don't you even know that each match is different? as 3ku1 said that was a freak result and it's crazy to deduce nothing from it.
At this moment if there's a semifinal Saders-Sharks I don't give the sharks more than a 5% of the possibilities of winning against a well managed saders team, with the front row rested over the last matches, with Read and Carter back to the team, Nadolo and Dagg in an astonishing form, playing at home,.....

True but Tahs are beatable, i mean Canes did run out to a 20 pt lead, only till revert to Canes haha and blow it. If Canes do make the finals, and its more possible then Blues, and if they are more consistent, then they are like the warriors of super rugby, they well be a danger for all teams. But Blues need to Chiefs by at least 10 pts, and prevent Chiefs from getting 2 bp, if they get 1 bp the tie break is based on number of wins, which is silly then whats the point of pd. In any case canes have more wins then Cheifs, and as Force have more wins then Canes they get bp, they well leap frog Canes. So Blues win by more then ten points, chiefs dont score four trys, Either Brumbies or Force dont get a Bp most likely that team well be force seeing Brumbies have home advantage.
1. Tahs2. Saders3. Sharks4. Highlanders5. Brumbies6. Canes
Qf 1
Sharks V Canes
Qf 2 Landers vs Brumbies
Semi 1
Crusaders V Highlanders
Semi 2
Tahs v Canes
Grand Final
Tahs v Saders
Most likely scenario based on that scenario, but of course othet scenaros may come into fruiation.
