When I mentioned that Shalk Burger did not look fully matchfit and he did not look physically in the shape he was previously, Mozart nearly had a fit.   Now Coetzee said that he was huffing and puffing after playing for 30 minutes - which confirms my initial impression. 

 

So far his return was not convincing and we would have to see what he actually produces in future.   However, what is clear as daylight he has a long way to go before he can be considered fo r higher selection.

 

Coetzee also announced that Malherbe is back.   The latter is likely to come from the bench this weekend and will get adequate playing time before the end of the CC, allowing for him to be in the EOYT squad.   We desperately need a strong tighthead since Jannie du Plesis seems to be on the decline.

 Mike what did you expect from Schalk? I doubt he has even played a club game. Of course he has a way to go, it couldn't be otherwise.
One hopes Malherbe comes back strong as he is a good player and could take the tighthead spot next year. Kitshof must come into the Bok picture as well next year

 On current form, he doesnt come close.
But imagine a fully fit Schalla back in the mix.
Let us not forget what an incredible asset he is.
One of our all time best flankers (on either side of the scrum)..

I hope / pray that he finds some fitness and form very soon. There are few better sights than seeing that blonde mop of hair going full steam in to make a massive hit or hit ruck or with ball in hand.

I have met Schalk Burger and has always been an admirer  A nicr gentleman and a better ambassador for rugby would be hard to find.  Also a top rugby player without any shadow of doubt.

 

Looking at him Saturday he was much thinner than he used to be and was not looking like he was matchfit.   Hope he comes through -0 but we will have to wait and see what happens nex t year in Super 15.

 Taking into consideration that he allmost died from Meningitis, as well as being out of the game for allmost 2 years with injuries, 
- is it a surprise that he is not match fit and lost some bulk?

 Schalk has allready made one career ending comback after breaking his neck. After this he became far less effective at the breakdown and moved to number 7 and number8.
I expect that he will become a great player again and he made have benefited from an injury enforced sabbatical. 
Not sure he will ever be the player he was as the 21 year old that won Worldplayer of the year, but I think he will lift his game.

 I don't think we will get a real indication of what to expect from Burger before Super 15 next year.   He is again on the bench this week and will probably play for circa 30 minutes again - so lets hope for the best.
