Ex Planet Rugby
Former Test stalwart Chris Paterson believes Scotland can achieve their target of winning the World Cup in 2015. Scottish Rugby's new four-year strategic plan has set the bar very high and also includes ambitions to claim a Six Nations Grand Slam in the next few years. Andy Robinson's team moved up from 12th to 9th in the IRB World Rankings thanks to their June Test wins over Australia, Fiji and Samoa but have still fallen short of the top-eight ranking target by the end of 2012 contained in the SRU's previous strategic plan, written in 2007. (Whatever could have happed scotties????) Paterson, who retired at the end of this season's Six Nations to join the national coaching structure believes it's best to aim high. (Of course scotties how about the moon then?) "It's an ambitious target, but I think it's good to set ambitious goals," Paterson told BBC Scotland. "International rugby is so close, so why wouldn't it be do-able? "We've seen Scotland win three games on tour over the last three weeks and international rugby is so close that could have been zero wins out of three," he added. "And, if you turn that on its head, in the Six Nations, Scotland won zero out of five, and certainly the first three could have been wins against England, Wales and France. "So you could have been going into the last two games against Ireland and Italy looking for two wins for a Grand Slam. "The margins are so, so fine in international rugby and, if you get the small bits right, there's no reason why you can't be successful." Chief executive Mark Dodson insists that the SRU's new plan does not set the bar too high. "We have thought about this long and hard and it's certainly not a knee-jerk reaction from the recent wins in the southern hemisphere," he said. "There's no reason why we can't win a World Cup or a Six Nations. "We've got some fantastic athletes working in Scottish rugby who are capable of great things. "We are an ambitious union and we need to set challenging targets." Ya bunch of chesting beating haggis bashers. Go and blow ya bag pipes and not ya own horn.Sitting at 9 in the world and having to beat a number of top sides to win the WC what are the scots thinking!! Dr Moz could do the maths but the odds must be astronomical. This is a commment of dorkie dumbo proportions!! BwhahahahahahahahahahaScotland can win Wolrd Cup!!
Beeno, after what they did to the Wallabies in their own backyard, I would hesitate to write them off - didn't they also claim a Boks scalp not so long ago? ;-))
He needs to get off the potato juice!
Come now Denny - he should rather go for Chivas Regal with what he had in mind. Mozart prefers Langfulen - But I prefer Chivaz Regal. Anyway enough of the joy juice may make the Scots think they really are on top of the world - but I believe although not so refined Kickapoo Joy Juice would be the solution - a flame nearby would turn Snowdon mountain into a bottomless hole - so the Scots can do with that one.
Maybe if they follow Englands lead and poach more Southern Hemisphere players. Don't have the talent right now
"Scotland can win the World Cup" ...No they can't!
@ Hakwa, they beat OZ in a midweek clash, where Australia were playing with a B team, that had had 2 days to prepare. The upset would have been for Australia to win that one. Looks like the stuff you guys smoke in NZ is stroooooooong!!!
Scotland the brave no, no just wrong.
Scotland will not win the World Cup in my lifetime.
and yes I will be around for the next WC.
Clevermike Snowdon is in Wales not Scotland I think you mean Ben Nevis...
I have more chance of falling pregnant than Scotland winning a WC
@Safesex...
These days it's quite easy for any women to fall pregnant!
Even at your age and size!
Do don't be so hard on your self!
Flash are you getting all horny!!
I think this current Scotland setup has lots of potential and could win if they entered the womens rugby world cup.
They are starting to sound like the English before any sports tournament.
They only have one player that I would want in the Bok side and that is 6'10, 130kg Richie Gray at lock, this 22 year old is the real deal - they have one or two useful other players, but the majority are pretty bloody average. The poor Scots just have no pool of players to call on
No doubt - Richie Grey is awesome. Someone they could build a team around.
Sheeza - thanks for the advice. When I wrote that piece of blarney - I know that Mount Snowdon is in Wales - but could not think immediately of a Scottish mountain name. Will remember that in future when I watch "Who wants to be a Classic Millionnaire"
By th way are the POMS all sub-standard in knowledge. I can answer 90% of the questions asked evn before they put up the possible four answers. Would be a millionaire if I could get onto that program!!! So the POMS must really be uninformed.
By the way one question asked was - Which of the four cities mentioned is on the South island in New Zealand. The four options were Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton or Chistchurch. The POM involved did not know the answer - really weird. Another question was which animals in Australia comes in varitieis classified as red and brown - nobody seems to know - not even the audience. Weird is it not?
Hakwa even the Scots themselvs actually dont believe they can win the World Cup - apart from a few lunatics like a former acquaintance I knew who I call dorkie dumbo - a mong a note who lives under a bridge in "bonny" scotland.
I think we all know who will be winning the next world cup and only modesty prevents me naming the side!
you've never let that stand in your way before Beeno :-D
infact it's your only weakness :-)) but I understand it's one you're more than willing to live with for ALL our sakes!
Hakwa I am just misunderstood a lot of the time due to the subtley of my ways I guess!
Enjoy your brief holding of the Cup and prepare for another long period of drought!
hehehe don't hold back Beeno!
