Although the score line was very much in favour of the Springboks - the performance of some of the players were problematic and hence some of the rather low scores:-
Willie le Roux : Had a brilliant game - contributed massively to the Springboks efforts
Scored try - made another one and saved a try - absolutely safe
insofar as ball handling is concerned. 9/10
JP Pietersen : Scored a try - saved a try and had two good breaks with ball in
hand. Good in defence Gave away penalty 8/10
Jacque Fourie : Did nothing of note - other than to give away 2 penalties to the
Scots. A player ran past him early on no attempted tackle
Twice knocked on balls 4/10
Jean de Villiers : Solid performanve on attack and defence 7/10
Bryan Habana : Nothing much on attack - Saved a try 6/10
Pat Lambie : Very good in variation of play. Defence 100% 8/10
Fourie Du Preez : Solid performance 7/10
Duane Vermeulen : Very good performance - real top class 8/10
Willem Alberts : Had 10 ball carries without much effect - scored push over try
Penalty conceded - low tackle count 6/10
Francois Louw : Carrried ball 5 times with positive effect. Made 10
tackles - missing 2 Penalty conceded 6/10
Flip v/d Merwe : Average performance at best. Made a lot of tackles
but mot really effective in line-outs 6/10
Bakkies Botha : No show - missed too many tackles - not effective
in line-outs - Gave away penalty 4/10
Frans Malherbe : Quiet game - strong in scrums 5,5/10
Adriaan Strauss : Very solid performance. Excellent defence 7/10
Gurthro Steenkamp : Scrumming iffy - made some tackles, but gave
away penalty and also a short-arm pennalty 5/10
In essence the Springboks as a team deserved the victory - but it is clear that Meyer's testing of Jacque Fourie is an exercise in futility and he was more a hindrance than advantage in the backline. Going on todays performance Bakkies Botha is not international material anymore - it really was not up to standard. Gurthro Steenkamp scrumming is just not good enough.
Delighted to see that Pietersen showed some really good form - but he needed a spark to perform and that spark was provide by le Roux.
