I hesitate to mention some rugby history, RooiAAS might quote Bradman at me or heaven knows Camus....hold on, make that Santayana....hehe. But I'm wondering what the difference is between the new scrumming rules about to be introduced and the old scrumming rules of the Mof Myburgh's era.. Oops Mof, perhaps that will set RooiAAS off on another dick tirade. Well, let's leave him measuring dicks shall we? - It's quite interesting going to Youtube and punching in some of the old tests. Lineouts, without lifting and balls thrown incredibly inaccurately by wingers, make for much less certainty. And the scrums are pretty static until the ball is thrown in (straight). The front rows grapple a bit getting hold of each other....there might be a bit of momentum on one side, but nothing like a hit....and then they start shoving as the ball comes in. Most scrums are successfully completed on the first attempt , with much less collapsing. Let's hope it's back to the future with the new rules.

By all accounts the new rules have brought about less scrum collapses, less slipping of the bind and promote a true contest between props. Good props can once again get the better of weaker ones. Time will tell

Good news. In the old days powerful props like Piet du Toit were still able to create a scrumming advantage , without the hit. We may, however find that some of the second effort props like Wyatt Crockett may become more effective.
