Scurrilous accusations from former wee ab Toni brown!

Yep old toni Brown is a NZ toad trying to undermine the Boks in this years RWC in Japan but getting the Japanese against them.

Cape Town - Sunwolves coach Tony Brown believes bad blood between South Africa and Japan played a part in the Japanese franchise losing its Super Rugby status.

The follows SANZAAR’s announcement last week that the Sunwolves would not participate in Super Rugby from 2021, with the competition to revert back to a 14-team format.

Brown told Fox Sports that the Sunwolves' demise was because the South African Rugby Union wanted to exact revenge on its Japanese counterpart for not voting for it to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

The hosting rights went to France, who had duelled with South Africa and Ireland for the rights to host the global showpiece.

"There's a bit of resentment from what happened at the World Cup vote a few years ago, and it's a relationship that's been pretty rough ever since," the former All Black flyhalf said.

"It wasn't a big surprise, we were probably just hoping there was a slim chance we could survive and build something sustainable for years to come.

"There were so many things that went on and the South Africans were just dead against having the Sunwolves involved."

Well oaks couldn' t Oz, NZ  voted for the Sunwolves???  Nope Toni took a cheap shot.

I saw this and ignored it,   There was a variety of reasons why the Sunwolves were eliminated from the SR series,   Those covered both the fact that -

*    the Japanese clubs refused to release their players to play for the Sunwolves' and

*    the Japan Rugby Union's refusal to contribute money to fund the cost o partipation of the Sunwolves in the series.

It is clear that SA - by far the biggest financial contributor to Sanzaar - was unhappy about the attitude of the Japan Rugby Union and added to that was the huge travel and accommodation costs associated with participation of the Suwolves in the competition.

Although there is no doubt that SA played a role in the expulsion there was no support of NZ and Australia for their retention as well.

Tony is unhappy because he is losing a well-paid job. 

I liked Tony as a player. Didn't he also don the Mighty Stormer/WP jumper at one stage? Quality player and by the looks of it a decent coach too. 

And the RWC vote had less to do with it than the travel burden on SA teams.

We need to get Brown to coach the Stormers - maybe he could make a team out of that lot.  He would even be a good Chief Coach of the Springboks with  Erasmus as Director of Rugby. Anyway he would be a damn sight better than the stone age donkeys we had as Springbok coaches in the past and still have as some of the Super Rugby franchise coaches   Fleck happens to be one of the latter.

We certainly know how to pout, don't we?

This is payback for the drubbing we received at their hands. Seems that some of us are still red faced about being out coached, outplayed and out scored.

I wonder if Meyer had anything to do with it?

Either way... they should never have been included ... not at the expense of the Cheetahs and Kings.

Ou maaaaikie Toni may make a good backline coach but he would have to be muzzled lest he brings the Mighty Stormers into disrepute by his boorish kiwi manners etc
