Thinking back to a past discussion about his weight and height I kept a keen eye out for the pre match squad overview on TV.

His weight was at 85kg's and his height was at 1.85 m, so it's final.

Sounds about right. Bulle though shut him down pretty effectively. The most dangerous runner is Kolbe at 80 kg - world class scr ummie going to waste.

You dont need to be 100kg's to be an effective fullback.

Christian Cullen

Rugby player
Christian Mathias Cullen is a former New Zealand rugby union footballer. He played most of his rugby at fullback for New Zealand, for the Hurricanes in the Super 12, and for Manawatu, Wellington and later Munster at provincial level. Wikipedia
Born: February 12, 1976 (age 38), Paraparaumu, New Zealand
Height: 1.80 m
Weight: 85 kg

Give Kolbe a chance before we write him off due to his weight.

I reckon he would be an electrifying super sub for 15 - 20 mins. Think Brent Russell...

Well give the TV stats keep telling us Etzebeth only weighs 117 kg when he weighs 125 kg, that Ettiene Oosthuizen weighs 115kg when he weighs 120, Schalk v/d Merwe at 115kg when he is over 120, Ulrich Beyers as 87 kg when he is 100kg so one can never rely on the TV stats

Well another source in SArugbymag has him at 1.86m and 83kg, so I'm guessing he's around the 85kg mark.

At 1.85m and muscled up I put him at 90 kg the same size as Skosan and Rhule who's weights are accurate these days. Rhule used to always be down as 83kg.
But the biggest TV stat joke is Ulrich Beyers

Flash backs are probably on average 10 kg heavier than in Cullens day.
Kolbe at 80 kg is too light. But perhaps as an impact player. Russel never made it and i fear Kolbe is going to take a battering.
Scrummie is so obviously his best position. Breaking on the blindside he could be devastating and opposition loosies etc would have to watch him very closely. He has quick reactions and a good boot as well. He passes well too. A potentially world beating scrummie but the oaks are too dense to see it.

Seabelo Senatla is 21 years old having said that, his weight will increase once he grows to his full potential in a few years. There is no doubt Senatla is one of the best wingers in open space currently in SA but such a player needs to be developed more to bulk up abit however he may be ready at test level in 2 or 3 years from now.

I agree with Flashdakota in regards to players weight at fullback. Fullback players don't need to force themselves to reach a 100kg because Players don't need be 100kg to be effective, its been proven on various times. Kolbe is the type of player that can perform effectively despite his weight, the player is out of this world and deserves a bok call up
as well as Nizaam Carr and Jaco Kriel.

Kolbe has the advantage in that while really short, he is stocky unlike Paulse and Aplon for instance.
He also punches way above his weight in terms of strength.
Fullbacks like centres need physicality and bulk these days and for that reason I would play Kolbe on the wing.
I am not a fan of small backs but Kolbe is the exception. This kid is special

Kolbe shouldn't be played on the wing or scrum half. The player has all the attributes to play at fullback, its the position where he plays best. His ability counter attack and kick into space is well suited at fullback. The player is far more talented than Le Roux.

Bullshit Willie is our best attacking back by some distance and to prove that at test level says something about him.
Kolbe is too small for 15, wing is his spot where he could roam

Kolbe can equally useful at fullback or wing. Kolbe is actually a better defender than Willie LeRoux. He looks to be physically stronger regardless if he is a few kg lighter. Not only is his tackling technique better but so far his positional play on defence looks better

How and where the player is positioning himself on defence. A very important factor at fullback.

Player's have far more freedom to roam at fullback in comparison to wing.
Whilst I have enjoyed the thought of Kolbe at scrumhalf it's just not a position a player can switch to. He's a fullback and his defence is perfect.

To exclude Senatla is absurd.

The find of the season.

You guys are writing him off because of what ... 5kg.

How pathetic is that?

No one really knows exactly what these players weigh, so why carry on about it? My weight varies from one week to the next by sometimes 2 to 3kg . If he can do the job he's supposed to do, who cares if he is 85 or 90kg?

Right, some tend to try and discredit certain players to suit their own agenda, its nothing new here in the case of Kolbe and Senatla. Both players are talented and have what it takes to succeed regardless of weight. They will be tearing it up in Super Rugby.

Kolbe will have a serious problem when he has to compete for a high ball. Willie is improving his abilities under the highball, and with Cornal Hendricks being totally scared of the highball, teams will exploit our back three with Kolbe there as well.

Senatla is not bad under the highball and a serious finisher, I would hope he gets a shot in November, at least he looks to have a bit more gutspa than Hendricks.

Why will Cheslin Kolbe have a problem under the high ball? Has he had a problem up until now?

I wish everyone would get off this talented youngster's case and just let him develop like any other promising player without trying to change his position or moaning about his perceived lack of size.

At least let the oke play a season of S15 (in his preferred position) before you write him off. He's done enough in this year's CC to warrant getting that shot.

October 14, 2014, 00:14:23On the contrary. I was the first poster to assert  Pollard was the Bok flyhalf of the future, and together with the estimable Matey I made the point Morne had to make way for him after his blunder.

I am totally happy with Willemse as a Bok candidate. I think Senatla is a mega talent who could find his way onto the Bok bench next year. Likewise Thomas du Toit.
The fact that I think Goosen lacks guts, Reinach lacks smarts and Stepfontein lacks pace doesn't mean I wouldn't want them to have those commodities. Right now, however, I can't see any signs of it.
Of the three I have most hope for Steppie. He is the youngest and a real trier. The expression on his face when Smith handed him off spoke volumes....it was a look of agony. Players who feel their responsibilities are always better in my view. It's a pity about the pace.

Jerome, I never have a problem with people having a laugh at my poor predictions if they at least had the guts to put up a prediction if their own . . . as you did . . . so go ahead and rip into me. Your WP okes played well (as they have the whole season if truth be told) and the Sharks were nothing short of pathetic on Saturday.
I do however have a problem with the finger-pointing little cowards who don't have the courage to make predictions of their own but still have the nerve to shriek and squawk about other people's predictions when they get them wrong. I know it's hard to believe that there are people who could be so lacking in character and fortitude but we have at least one such repulsive coward on this board.

September 01, 2014, 19:27:48 Sonatla's knee seemed  to be badly trapped there....a great pity, it's exciting  to see some genuine talent. I thought Kolbe and de Jongh also had fine games and the whole WP approach looks far more like their traditional approach. So often the things hinge on one devastating player as with Habana in 2007..I hope the loss of Senatla doesn't spike our guns

No you did, whilst I'm not as sad as you to waste time sifting through the articles. We know and I'm certain a few others know that you complained about his weight and height.
In fact I can quite clearly remember how you brought up a image of Senatla next to Kolisi saying how short he was compared to Siya.
Lousy human being? Say's you, the person who has accused someone of being racist because they think a player isn't good and hasn't even a hint of racism in his judgement of the players performance? Now that's lowly.

I did not wnt to post here - because of the contuous attacks on members becasue of so-alled racism\\
I have seen Senatla many times in 7's and recently also in the 15 man game.   I think if you put im inspace he will beat the deense with speed.   Close down his space and there is really nothing of consequence.    On S uper 15 level he will not get the space needed and that would limit his efficienc y,
I think that Senatla is the best 7's player imaginable - but he has yet to prove being a comprhensive 15 game player.
