......new young guns say Clevermike and Dave.........select only players playing in South Africa says Urinal....select only Currie Cup heroes says CC.....select the flavour of the day heroes say the media....defence is optional says Smith, only attacking skills differentiate teams .....fans that don’t support this team should just stop watching says Brendan. . Now the results are in. Enjoy ....or perhaps we should all take Brendan’s advice. .. Can you believe I read one article where the author thinks Gelant is a must for next week. .. Stupidity that has destroyed 100 years of excellence.

Moz,I'm finding it increasingly difficult to ignore Brendan's advice. I watched the first half of the Irish test and turned it off.

Why are you misleading members about what I said about selections for years now.   Coupled to that I suggested that performance got to be watched when it comes to newcomers to the senior game to determine whether they are indeed show progress.
That is all I wrote for years now and the fact is that I repeatedly stated that is is not an election issue - performance is.
What I have repeatedly differed from you about is your insistence on experience and reputation of players without regard to performance.

Mike you had no respect for what we had....one of the top two teams in the world, a team with leaders and competent internationals in every position. A team that with a bit of luck could have won RWC15. You were obsessessed with new players and new styles. Well now we have that team.....and nobody has a clear idea whete to turn next. Stick with the model, extend the model and improve it.....don’t blow it up. .. Monster I get your disgust, and your feelings of alienation from the rabble who played on Saturday. If we are going to be that incompeyent, at least we could try.

This is a new angle and totally misleading as well.   I had no respect for the under-performers Meyer used on the norm of he "knows what they are capable of" and with no regard to performance.
I never wanted players like De Villiers, Louw, Bismarck and  Pietersen out of the team while they were performing.   Unfortunately De Villiers got injured and he should not be in the WC squad.    There were better players than some of the old players Meyer insisted on and the end result was a loss against Japan "by the most experienced Springbok team ever".
At present Habana, Louw and Pietersen are over the hill nd not worth selecting anymore.
However, instead of taking note of the disastrous selections of Coetzee and coming up with some improvements in both the selections and the coaching upoi copme up wi a weird discussion as to the above,

Oh sure Tokkie the team that came within 2 points of beating NZ at the RWC and easily won the Bronze was filled with over the hill players. Trouble is your new team is filled with players who haven’t even found the hill. And in spite of all your protestations you have been a big supporter of Allende, Kriel and Lomp.....all of them useless on Saturday. .. We have no core team....that’s what happens when you discard all your veterans in one foul swoop, a charge that you were the biggest proponent of.....take your medicine.

The problem started with Meyer starting the older players match after match, without giving new hopefuls a chance to start accumulating experience in a settled Bok team. He convinced retired players to play again. At some stage these players had to hang up their boots. Now we sit with an situation where there are no experienced bok starters left. Fransie has not been in the fold for years now, and he's turned his back on the Boks a few times. Who else is left of the old guard? Willie, Habana and JPP? Pienaar? All of them are basically almost in retirement. We will be forced to bite the bullet and invest in new players, but sellections have been poor. We simply have no clear test quality players for almost all the positions barring the tight five. Frightening stuff indeed. We need a good coach who can identify true talent and mould that into a team...and the current coaching team is not gonna do that. Carel and Jake brought in players from nowhere to become Bok legends. Heyneke did it for the Bools back in the day, but I haven't seen any other coaches making bold pics and sticking to their guns. It's almost as if they read newspapers and social media before selecting their teams. We are screwed for the next few years...if not permanently so.

So Draad nobody expected the team to go through till now.....a few players perhaps. But there was no point in discarding players when we didn’t have better players.....and I doubt even today we have better players than Frans or Bismarck. . And for NH conditions...there is no better option than Pienaar. And even for the bench, if Wilco gets injured early just like Coenie, who would you rather prop against France, Jannie or Dreyer. You don’t drop players because they are old, you transition to new players gradually when they show they are ready. .. With regard to new players under HM....there was Willie, Basson, Hendricks, Taute, Kriel, JJ Englebrecht, Allende, Serfontein, Jantjies, Boshoff, Pollard, Goosen, Mapoe, Reinach, Vermaak, Piet van Zyl, Paige, Koch, Coenie, Nyakane, Cilliers, Liebenburg, Marcel, Redlinhuis, Malherbe , Lewies, Stephanie, Lomp, Etzebeth, Juandre Kruger, Daniels, Coetzee, Vermeulen, Mohoje, Kolisi, Jacques Potgieter, Carr, Whiteley.....38 new players I can recall, and I’m sure there are some I missed. .. Sure after some of these guys failed HM mined his old players like Bakkies, Juan Smith , Gurthro, Fury and a handful of others. Were these players less likely to succeed in the WC than the newbies? Nope....F du Preez, Matfield, Alberts, Habana, JP and Habana certainly never let the team down. But where the players were no longer at test level, like the first four, HM moved on. .. Our coaches function in a crazy environment. A naive rugby public and press.....and the constant need to find diversity candidates that wont blow up the team like Skosan and Jantjies did on Saturday. It’s the toughest job in rugby and HM did okay. Where he failed was when he tried to please. Like starting with Lomp in the WC semi, and that choice was repaid by Kaino running through Lomp for a crucial try. .. But while HM was right relying on players who could function under pressure....he could have pushed the skills and tactics envelope. Jake got the Brumbie forwards handling like backs in no time....and there was really no offensive plan inside the opponents’ 22 except the maul. All of that could have been more subtle. .. But HM’s teams were light years ahead of our current mob, in terms of gravitas, talent and motivation

Meyer capped lots of new players, but ut was done haphazardly and he only gave only a few a good look. Fransie took himself out of contention for the umpteenth time quite a few years back. I still rate him as a player, but he seems disinterested in playing for the Boks. I believe a good coach will be able to pick a good ballanced team and coach them into a competitive unit within a season or 2... Alistair is the problem, not our talent pool.

Well I have no doubt a competent coach beats where we are today....whether we will do better than we did under HM is questionable, that’s about the limit of our current talent pool in my opinion.

Frans was given a chance last year and flopped badly - he lost his mojo years ago and is no longer an international player.   Bismarck is not a player to be used when he will not make it o the next WC.   So both choices are shortsighted and again as per normal with you basically without regard to performance either,

Actually Frans played this year off the bench, he never played last year.....a pretty fundamental mistake. So I’m guessing the comments about his performance are just as unreliable.

Steyn was discarded by Meyer and not tried because he was a real let down when playing for the Sharks.   He was grossly over-weight and unfit - a serious liability.
Then went with his mentor White to Montpellier - lost some weight - but in june 0 when he was called up - came from the bench and was totally unfit - could not run 50 meters at his slow pace without being totally out of breath.
Now he had a good game against very weak opposition and scored two tries - one made by Serfontein and the other by Cruden - and suddenly accordibng to you he is the hottest property around.
Will he made it on international level?   Definitely not - early promise and early going sour.   Steyn is too slow to be a flyhalf and too slow to be a center.
