On a serious note - their Is something seriously amiss in tennis in the US. Serena Williams is the only US player that one a trophy this year - no other players won anything of note in either of the doubles - be it men's, women's or mixed doubles.. She is already 31 years of age - and may last another year or so - but only of she manages her game entries carefully.
Even though there are some younger females coming through - there is no real indication of greatness amongst them - so the future does not look good.
On the men side there really is nothing of note coming through and I thinks there is only 1 player from the US in the top 20 players.
Another disappointing player this year was Murray - after his Wimbledon win - he went into steep and rapid decline. Novak Djokovic last year was virtually unbeatable and won title after title. This year his title wins were few and far between.
I share your point of view - namely that Federer should consider retiring. He could spend time then at playing golf -and deep sea fishing - his other favourite pastimes. His home at Knysna will meet both requirements very well in any event.
Who is going to win tonight in the men's final? The smart money is on Nadal - I think.
