Having watched the full game now, one has to be impressed by the youngster. He made some mistakes, the pass that  got JJ away was a lucky packet.....and he got shrugged off by Kimlin. Also that tap penalty run from near his line, worked out ok, but was rather stupid. Still one has to like the confidence that allowed him to do that.

All in all, he looks green but technically good. He is clearly a strong lad and he tackles well. As for the comparisons to Gerber those will have to wait. To me he seemed more inclined to step inside, Gerber was an outside gap man. Whether he has the pace to do that, time will tell. But with that performance at 19, Bok colours in the future seem a reasonable expectation.

For the rest the Bulls played quite well, but suffer from a weak front row. The Mellett kid who has been mentioned as a future Bok was really weak. I also think the Bools need more power in the back row....they don't have a Vermeulen/Deysel/Alberts type which would compliment their game.

Some of you guys are going to hate this but Morne was superb in that game. His inside pass to Mapoe was every bit as creative as anything we have seen from Jantjies. He controlled the run/kick choices very well in the last 20 minutes. And those last two kicks he landed under pressure to tie the game were classical Morne.

I think Morne had an average game even though his first kick at goal was a miss - not a particularly difficult kick as well.  He played the normal Morne game - nothing to say about his attacking game and solid in defence.  His goal kicking after the first miss - and his kicking game was reasonably good.  The inside pass is nowadays an accepted weapon in attack and also fairly standard.

His game was more or less on par with the one of Catrakilis for the Kings and Francis for the Cheetahs.  Everyone is outstanding compared to Earl Silky Hands Jantjies and that includes the second team flyhalf of Witgatwortelfontein.

Serfontein is a very good youngster and I am delighted that we at least have some younger centers coming through.  De Villiers tried desperately hard against the Crusaders - but was badly let down by the players both inside and outside of him and he may yet move to 13 - with nobody of note at 12.  Defibnitely not Francis Steyn.

Have you noted that Saffex has gone a bit quiet about his Francois Steyn campaign - no further inistence in the automatic selection of Steyn at 12,   Wonder how long that quietness will last.

Be it as it may -  Serfontein has the inside track for selection at 12 and his first full game for the Bulls was successful and he really was the best Bulls player on view.   He can only develop further from here,

Moz, if you watch the last 10min of the Bulls vs Reds game on Youtube, you will see Serfontein take the outside gap perfectly.

Mike you stupid fool, I cant comment of Frans at 12 if the Sharks are not playing - try catch a wake up.

Saffex

Welcome back - I hope you had a vey nice and relaxing long weekend.

Come now - please accept that Francois Steyn's days at 12 are numbered p he is too slow and one-dimensional for that job and will not play there for the Sharks again.

And Earl Silky Hands Jantjies was disastrous as per normal - what now on that one.

Mike keep your trap shut re Frans, he never played this weekend.

Frans will be the Bok 12, Meyer is a huge fan and rightly so

Steyn as the same chance at playing at 12 again as much as Jantjies has at playing at 10.   If Meyer select those two again he must go to a lunatic asylumn - because they can only cost him his job.

By the way - you Earl Silky Hands Jantjies made a complete f#ck up of the game against the Crusaders and he is where he was always - absolutely clueless and useless.

Mike, a fit Frans will be in the Bok side - simple reason is that he a proven test star, was our best test 12 last year and the best SA 12 in the first 2 S15 games this season - FACT. Add this to the fact that Meyer sees him as an intergral part of his team, much like he does Jean.

Jantjies was crap, but he was our best 10 the week before

Jantjies is an enigma - he very occassionallt do some good things - but he made more bugger - ups in the same game in which he did the very few good things.   He made enough bugger-ups against the Brumbies  to fill a book - but you only saw the good thing he did - not the bugger-ups he made.   The one is glaringly obvious - running headlong and planless into two Brumbies players waiting for him on the halfway line.   No supporting players since nbody thought he would be as stupid as he was and the result was very bad for the Stormers.  His defence in the channel was bad as always.   His ratings for the games played thus far are as follows:-

Bulls - Disastrously poor

Sharks -  Very poor

Chiefs   -   Average at best - tending to be mediocre

Brumbies -  Average

Crusaders -  Disastrously poor

It is high time the Stormers cut their losses and put him on the plane back to Johannesburg.

Kak, DomMike you are a liar, he has got better all season, but had a poor game with all those fumbles of Sat. He defended well, but his hands let him down - it happens

I'd never say Serfontain is the nex Gerber, they play different positions, have different body builds and different ways to beat defenders! He is himself and I can't wait for him to develop further!

I would be more inclined to suggest Small-smith is of the Gerber mould but he's kind of dropped off the radar.

The little I have seen of Small-Smith has hardly made that much of an impression on me......he looks handy, but doubt he is physical enough to make it. The other younger centres like Serfontein, de Allende, Swanepoel, Howard, Jordaan, JP du Plessis and Fisher all look better future prospects.

tough to compare serfontein to gerber as gerber might well be the best outside center we had. jacques fourie being in a close second. but SA in general play better as  unit with a hard line running no 13. in terms of the 12 jumper the requirements should be different. serfontein has the ablity to be a bok but will he realise his full potential at the bulls ?  my answer to that is a big no.

he is young and has the makings of a bok but it takes time to build up to that level. at the rate at which we are losing boks to overseas clubs he might well be in the mix sooner than later.

there is a lot of talent around but that talent will be wasted by ignorant rubbish coaching the likes of coetzee and meyer.

jp du plessis is light years better than de jongh but still he is not given a chance
