Serious trouble in Pretoria - off topic

It is no secret that violence in Pretoria has escalated in a major way and all of that because the ANC want to impose a new mayoral candidate in the Tshwane Metro.  The problem was that there were serious divisions within the ANC in Pretoria and they brought in a candidate who could stop the infighting.   On paper the lady concerned seems to be a good choice - but in practise it is a bad choice.  She is a Zulu with no real links to Pretoria and the dislike of the Vendas.Tswanas  and other Sotho ethnic groups dislike the Zulus.  Zuma's own unpopularity is also a cause of the riots.   Many thinks that the lady concerned was sent to Pretoria as a Zuma surrogate and not to be trusted.   Lucky the test on Saturday is in  PE - but the  problem is equally difficult in that city from a political perspective.  The ANC interference in Rugby is an abomination - but it seems as if their political moves are equally disastrous.        

Question is...how many disgruntled ANC supporters will vote EFF and how many DA? Also, when will whites, Indians and coloureds start to burn everything thing in sight at the first sign of discomfort? It's about time the rest of us started t make our voices heard.

 Plum - according to opinion polls conducted in Pretoria (TShwane Metro) the ANC was trailing the DA by 6% in that Metro.   The poll was conducted before the riots this week and the designated Mayoral Candidate by the ANC.    The rioters shouted that if she remained they are going to vote for the DA.   The ANC situation in PE is even worse - they are 10% behind the DA.  One can never predict - but there are serious problems for the ANC - a large stayaway would hit them badly as well.   It seems that part of the problem is tribalism.  Since Zuma and his inner circle took over the ANC - the Xhosas, and other tribal groups - especially in Gauteng, Limpopo and North West Provinces feels marginalized.  That in itself will be a problem for the ANC.  My guess is that the ANC will do well I the rural areas in some provinces - but will have problems in the Urban areas - both with the DA and the EFF.          

It's odd that they are behind in PE considering the Eastern Cape is such a stronghold for them historically. I know that further north in the EC, in the very rural areas from Butterworth up to almost Kokstad, they still have a lot of support. The ANC are throwing a lot of tax money into that area and the locals don't understand that it's South African tax money and not King Zuma's personal fund that is developing the area for them.

Plum - not as popular as they used to be when Mandela and Mbeki (both Xhosas) was in charge.   Mandela and Mbeki knew how to keep the tribal chiefs on their side.  Zuma as a Zulu is not popular - he is not from the tribal aristocracy either.   The PE situation has  been buggered up so badly by corruption and infighting the ANC is not supported.
