Great win sharkies!! 5 pointer!

The Blues lost 23-29 against The Sharks in their Vodacom Super Rugby clash at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday.

The Sharks also secured a bonus point for scoring four tries in the match. They went into the halftime break with a two point lead (13-15) after tries from Steven Sykes and Craig Burden. Keegan Daniels and Tim Whitehead scored two more tries for the visitors in the second half.

The Blues also secured a point for losing within seven points. They only managed two tries in the game which was scored by Tony Woodcock and Benson Stanley. The rest of the Blues' points came from the boot of Gareth Anscombe who converted both tries, kicked two penalties and a drop goal in the match.

The Blues will take on the Highlanders in Dunedin next week, while the Sharks will host the Chiefs in Durban.

That is more like it Sharks. Another nz side bites the dust!  Blue times for sitting bull!

Some comment from Planet Rugby - possibly the larges trugby website in the world.

Fifteen points down, and the hosts were in trouble. However, after repeated surges on the Sharks line amounted to nothing, Anscombe took the three points on offer by referee Steve Walsh - who had another shocker with the whistle - to put the Blues on the board. With half-time approaching, the Blues managed to win an illegal scrum against the feed and Tony Woodcock finished what he started with a try as the prop burrowed over for a crucial score converted by Anscombe. The Blues pivot then made it a two-point ball game after calmly slotting over a drop-goal from bang in front to take the scores to 15-13 at the break. The home side made the perfect start to the second half when centre Benson Stanley pounced on a sloppy pass from Sharks scrum-half Charl McLeod for his team's second try. Anscombe dually converted and the Blues were in front for the first time in the match (20-15). Celebrations in the Eden Park stands didn't last long though as the Sharks hit back straight away with two quickfire tries through Daniel and centre Tim Whitehead - both converted by Lambie. The first from Daniel saw the number eight dart past two defenders before crossing the line, and the second came after Lambie made a superb line break before linking with that man Daniel who offloaded to Whitehead. Running at full tilt, the Sharks midfielder knocked the ball on to a Blues defender but managed to snatch back possession and cruise in for the bonus point try that the visitors were lucky to get away with. With the Blues forced to play catch-up yet again, Anscombe sent over a 67th minute penalty to close the gap to six points which meant the hosts needed a converted try to win the game. But the Sharks were up to the task, with some exceptional defence keeping the Blues at bay as the visitors hung on for victory. How did Walsh ref those who saw the game? Is the writer correct that he had a shocker?

The way the Blues played in the first half, I thought this is it, but alas the Blues are their own worst enemy. I can never blame their coach, these players play like individuals, they never keep the ball alive through teamwork and as a result get turned over or they  knock on.

Nonu is one of the the most individualistic players on the park, never passes. I remember when he first hit the international scene, how Graham Henry and co worked hard on him to get him to to gel with his fellow players, it seems he has regressed to the same ole selfish slug he is. The same can be said of Rene Ranger. If these guys shift the ball through the hands of their backline, they'll slice open any defense with the amount of pace and talent they got. To summarise....they just not playing like a team, not in the least bit!!

Go Shaaaaaaarks!!!

Seamus # April 14, 2012 - 8:13am

Losing the match was a forgone conclusion so not too many problems there. What I found intolerable was all the commentators, looking and searching for nice things for positive things to say about the Blues the coach, the whole entire mess. My long beloved blues now receiving moral support like those who go down to the Salvation army for a cheap feed. Then the players being interviewed after the game . All the blues depressed angry irate cheesed off. All the Sharks , shovelling out compassion and sorrow for the Blues. This is a warrior game and once your opponent feels srrow for you one might as well go play netball. How utterly sickening and sad and unreal and insulting, prideless and who amongst all this lot who is soaking up and wallowing in the most pity? Whats next, free valium at training sessions. yup, keep the present hierachy, it will do the everyones mind a power of good, reinforce success, promote self achievement .It will have them all flying like eagle soon as. Keep everyone feeling sorry for the coach and themselves. The rocky path is about to get rockier. Thank heaven theres no economic crisis in sight for all concerned. But as John Plumtree The kiwi Sharks coach said those who critisize , like me , are losers and what have we done with our lives and stop putting the boot in. He gave me my only laugh of the night. While we were meant to stop with the boot he and his boys were out there slashing with a giant sword. A very perverse man.

# April 15, 2012 - 7:21pm   I couldn't care less what ethnicity Lam is- what some of you Lam apologists don't seem to get is that a coach is supposed to choose and guide rookie players, assist players struggling with form slumps or injury, create game plans and train squads to achieve victory. Lam has miserablty failed in all areas here, that is why the vast majority of Blues supporters want him gone- ffs I couldn't give a toss what ethnicity a coach is- the next Blues coach could be a gay, Jewish, female, Nigerian for all I care- as long as they create competent game plans, good playing systems, irontight defence and most of all- win fkn matches! Why is this so hard for some to understand? And let none of us forget the real villan here, who must also be removed from the Blues set-up. Andy Dalton- show some integrity Mr Dalton, resign now- and if he doesn't have the decency to admit his failure- then he needs to be ousted by the Blues board or NZRU.
