Sharks appoint Doctor!
Great move, but not a certain end to Plumtree.
Meyer has been the bulls director, while they still have a head coach Luduke
Not quite correct Sharkbok. Ludeke was never the Bulls "head coach". He was/is the coach of the Bulls franchise. Pine Pienaar is the coach of the Blue Bulls. Heyneke Meyer was the Director of Rugby for the Blue Bulls and the Bulls. When he was appointed as the Bok coach, Ludeke took over from him. Ludeke is now (as far as I know) the Director of Rugby and the Bulls coach. There is a difference. The Bulls is the super rugby franchise and the Blue Bulls is the union team for the CC and the Vodacom Cup.
Whether Brendan Venter is called the Coach or the Director of Rugby of the Sharks and whether it's the CC or the S15, John Plumtree is definitely leaving Durban according to this article.
It was probably time for a change and I don't mind Brendan Venter replacing Plumtree, but I would have much preferred Nick Mallett!
Ceradyne, I would say that Ludeke is the head coach because he is not a specialist coach.
He is not the deferece coach(formerly John Mcfarland), not the backline coach(formerly Lobster), not the attack coach(Matfield).
He may just be referred to as the coach, as he is not specialist. However if their is a team of coaches it would be prudent to assume that the general coach is the head coach.
When I say Bulls during the SuperXV season I am referring to the Northern Bulls, and not the Vodacom team etc.
-
Rassie was the director at Stormers and WP until he left with Cotzee the head coach.
Great move by the Sharks - I rate this guy highly. He and John Smit will build the sharks up for sure.
I have a bit of a sinking feeling about WP. No decent coach will stay here. We lose players hand over fist and have a weak coaching combo.
Sharkbok, when in a hole............................
There is no such thing as the Northern Bulls. That died away ages ago. That was used in the days when it was the Western Stormers and the Cats. Their is also no such thing as a Bulls Vodacom team. There is a Bulls franchise and the Blue Bulls rugby union (Blue Bulls pty ltd). The Bulls franchise take part in the Super 15 and the Blue Bulls take part in the Vodacom Cup and the Currie Cup competitions. The Bulls have a coach (Frans Ludeke) assisted by a number of assistant coaches. The Blue Bulls have their coach (Pine Pienaar), assisted by a number of assistant coaches. Frans Ludeke is the Director of Rugby for the Blue Bulls. Where you are wrong is that you are saying that the Bulls had a headcoach (Meyer) and that Ludeke was the headcoach. Heyneke Meyer was not the Director of Rugby for the Bulls, it was for the Blue Bulls.
The main body is still the Blue Bulls and not the Bulls. Everybody seems to think that the franchises are the backbone of the unions, and that is not the case. The franchises are owned, or in some cases part owned, by the unions. Some of the unions even have "external" shareholders as well.
