Check out this article on News 24 where it's suggested that Robert du Preez Snr will field a weakened team against the Crusaders and save his big guns for the next game on tour against a vulnerable looking Chiefs side.

There are at least 4 front-line players who are actually a bit short of game time who will almost certainly be included against the Crusaders - Akker van der Merwe after his ban and Jean-Luc du Preez, Ruan Botha and Phillip van der Walt after their respective injuries - but for the remaining regular starters, it might be a good idea to rest the likes of Dan du Preez, Beast Mtawarira, Andre Esterhuyzen and Curwin Bosch and save them for the much more winnable game against the Chiefs.

We'll know tomorrow what the coach has in mind but to me it makes sense to give some of the hungrier and less experienced players a chance at upsetting the Crusaders and keep the "A" team fresh for the Chiefs.

Go Sharks!

Rooinek

Esterhuizen had a bye about three weeks ago and did not play in one round.   And Curwin Bosch already has had a bye as well.

In the above regard I believe you may be wrong.

I know it makes sense in terms of the competition (although as poor as the Chiefs are they can still beat you on any day if you're not careful, so it can all backfire), but it's also sad that big contests are sort of watered down in this way to focus on the easier wins. Another reason why this competition should feature fewer teams. Anyway, we'll see what the team looks like.

First off the team hasn't been announced and this is all just speculation at this stage, but even if du Preez did field the "B" team, why are we writing them off already? There are a few youngsters like Tyler Paul and John-Hubert Meyer who are itching for an opportunity to show their stuff.
Secondly, the Crusaders have already announced that they will be resting Sam Whitelock and Ryan Crotty so why isn't everyone saying how sad it is that they won't be playing . . . or is it just the Sharks who have to play their players into the ground?

It could also be a con job by the Shark's management, I mean why go public about it?

Who went public? The original article was complete speculation by one of the Sport24 journos. The Sharks have said nothing at all about their team selection for Friday other than the fact that they'll announce the team tomorrow.

Rooitwit what a cowardly roll over and die bit of speculation.

The Sharks need to recall they beat the old crusts in nz playing a lot of the game with 13 men.

I trust the Sharks have more courage than their weakest link supporter. Field your best available side Sharks. Any idea you can't win so play a B team is rooitwit roll over BS.

Crusaders are a different beast to what they were under blackadder, cant see it happening again this game. Mind you nothing is certain in sport if it was nobody would watch.

Go the Mighty Crusaders

Black Udder was the most useless coach the Crusaders have had. Robbie Deans was a class act, and so is the new guy Scott something or other.
I remember both these coaches as players during the dominant era of the Crusaders.

The Sharks back row are all strong ball carriers, but none of them is effective on the ground.
I suppose Van Der Walt is ok at the base of the ruck, but the donkey twins are like sloths on the ground.

After blackadder i had serious reservation with Razor as i felt we were getting to insular.

Yes he was impressing at NPC level but i was worried he would bring more of the same, a great player does not always mean a great coach. I was more than happy to be proved wrong.

Hopefully we have him for 4 more years at least. Keep him as Crusaders coach and assistant ABs coach. Goes against our rules I believe but i can always hope

Seems the Sharks have kept the A team. And why not, 13 Sharks were good enough to put these Saders away a few years ago....granted one of those Sharks was France er Frans Steyn. And granted master coach Jake White was in charge. Still these Saders are having doubts about their very identity....time for the Sharks to show 15 committed men can take 15 equivalent men if they have the heart. I'm glad the Sharks never took the wimp Houwing's advice.

I know it's shocking 80% of the PC NZ rugby types want their best team to retain the aggressor name. Still 20% want it changed and no doubt those ranks will grow as immigrants make their case. One can but hope these fans leap outof 1950 where most of NZ is mired and see 2019.

Yes, good old Houwing, he of the belligerently frequent adjective and the long labored sentence paragraph which - if not helplessly adrift in the stinking, if not quite pungent swamp of his glimmering wordplay - may have been made gleefully shorter by simply getting to the inevitable point instead of skillfully walking, if not quite painfully jogging, around it in confidently expanding circles.

Jeez Pakie I guess you don't rate the old bore either! Now as for Saracens I love the name Saderfan. I also really like Crusader....but not for a bunch confused PC apologetic liberals. Your team should be the Spruces, or the Mountain Tarns or the Warblers. The name Crudaders just doesn't work for woosies.
