Sir Colin Meads Dies

All Black legend Sir Colin Meads has succumbed to cancer . The Mighty Pinetree has been felled .KIA KAHA SIR COLIN MEADS !

 Sorry to hear that and condolences to his family and friends. His memory is one that will always be with rugby fans. Glad he made it to see his statue, he was in pretty bad shape on that day but he wanted to be there so he made himself go. Rest in peace mate!

I saw Colin Meads play in the1960 test at Ellis Park...although I can't say I registered his play that day, we were fixated on Hennie van Zyl and Mike Antelme. And we were watching to see just how far Don Clark could really kick the ball. .. But as time went on we grew to know and admire Meads and there were many debates as to whether he or Frik du Preez was the greater lock. Regardless of the answer to that question, they were both giants of the game. Colin will be remembered with awe by South African rugby fans.

 The great Pinetree visited my primary school when I were a wee laddie .He looked and sounded like a giant from one of my story books come to life ! From teachers to pupils he had everyone in awe of him a veritable living legend .I have an impression of the sun shining while he was talking and the rain returning when he left such was his Mana .The same year we were blessed with a visit by Sir Edmund Hillary another man of great Mana .I am sure our SA friends have the same view of their own legends such as the great Doctor Craven .

 An Icon, a legend......a rugga man....RIP mate and tx for the memory.

 One of the N Z rugby greats has passed away. May he rest in peace and may his family be helped in their hour of need,

 Colin was a nz rugby great and we trust he will in fact RIP and find himself on the right side of things when he rises to the judgment throne of Christ as ALL must do.Of course Colin could get uppity as we all know. He tried his stuff on Frik who sorted him out very quickly! There was of course no doubt who was the better lock. Frik was by some distance the better athlete and about twice as fast as Colin.

 Sorry never saw Colin Meads play,only travelled through his part of he country once.My coach was detoured heading south and we stopped over at one of he towns there.Twas like an old Hollywood stage town,time moves slowly in that region.
