..........in a Sport 24 poll. I agree. This could have put our close game curse to bed....but it seemed panic was just beneath the surface. Not on the field really, but in the locker room. I have rarely witnessed a more disappointing end to a contest. Let alone a great contest as this undoubtedly was. The end wasn't worthy of the guts that it took to dig out of a huge hole.
Sixty five per cent say the Proteas should have tried to win...
Mozart
I think the problem was not so much in the second innings, but in the first innings. Going from 130/2 to 146/6 was where the Proteas actually lost the test. If there was not that collapse - the test would have been won with ease. It was pathetic to see the so-called top batters all fail one after the other.
I think the idea to bat out the test for a draw occurred when -
* AB went out;
* Duminy failed with the bat again; and
* Du Plessis ran himself out.
If any of the above batters stayed n for 10 more runs - the test would have been won before the last over.
At the rate and performance of the Proteas I think it is high time that the government step in and enforce a call up for Puke Watson.
I am sure he could have scored 16 runs in the last three overs to win the test....even with his cricket ability.
Any comments!!!!
