Would the full Lions team have been beaten by that margin?
What does it all mean :/

I thought the same thing. Whitely and Kriel were missed in such an open game. Rohan is much better than Serfontein

Plum the answer is simple.
Yes, the score might have been in the same ballpark if not higher.
Basically, it shows that the Lions are a good Currie Cup and Super 18 squad but not an international squad.
Sadly SA rugby has lost many a great player to overseas teams and the quota system is the death blow to rugby as we know it in RSA.
As CC stated a long time back the correct name for the national rugby team should be the GOATS.
Sadly it is only going to get worse under the present system.

A Lions team with quota fillers would have lost by 100 + points.
17 Sept 2017, 11:49#5
Not under Ackerman ... there's the difference.
They would at least have scored a penalty ... using Combrinck of course ...

@Denny
Shows how spineless the IRB, ICC etc are.
There is nothing in their guidelines that makes room for "fair" discrimination like there is in SA's flaunted constitution and yet not a peep out of either if them as concerns our teams being picked along racial lines.
Also, I don't see any other national teams threatening to boycott us. They're just happy to win unlike in the past when it suited them to boycott us.
There are only a few true quotas in the Bok team and it's tough to say how big a difference it is making. Might be making all the difference, might be making hardly any at all. One thing is for sure, and that is that Coetzee is a quota coach and has no clue. He never has.
Our problems aren't just quota players but it certainly is a big one and has a lot to do with players leaving the country too. That knock on effect alone creates huge issues.

@AJ
Marx, Dreyer, Jantjies, Skosan and Coetzee started yesterday.
Tell me Combrink, JSVR, Faf, Akkerman, Kriel and Whitely would not have made a world of difference.
They should have picked predominantly Lions at the start of the season and kept that team playing together. Only bolstering them with players that clearly deserved a shot and could fit into their style of play. If you can't offload, if you can't get to a sufficient amount of rucks and if you are unfit then go away and come try again next year. If you can't help improve this team then see you later. We don't care about your reputation or how many caps you have. End of.
It's clear this Bok team is nowhere near as fit as the Lions team. That one fact alone sets a Lions miles apart from the Boks. The Saders, probably the best club team in the world right now and close to par with the ABs, would very possibly have succumbed to the Lions fitness were it not for Quagga's red card. Even with 14 for most of the game, the Lions took it all the way to the wire against the best there is. How on earth does that become anything less than test level quality. It doesn't, because it is.
Are we still not understanding the myth of the step up to test level. Pumas = Los Jags and their performances against national and good franchise teams are practically identical. They needed Glen Jackson's help to put a Lions B team away IN Arentina at the start if the year yet did well against the ABs last week.
But yeah, I forget, they put Pumas jerseys on and suddenly become superheroes. Are you aware that pundits have to say sh1t like that to try and build interest in matches? Or they could say "Well this same team are really whipping boys in SR so expect one way traffic today. Enjoy he game." It's funny how despite the very clear evidence we still buy that big pile of BS every week.
The size of step up to test level is nonsense. There is a difference in skill but the top club sides are right on par with the best national sides skillswise. The main difference is hype and intensity...neither of which are insurmountable.
I support the Lions but that has got nothing to do with my opinion concerning the Boks.

"There is nothing in their guidelines that makes room for "fair" discrimination like there is in SA's flaunted constitution and yet not a peep out of either if them as concerns our teams being picked along racial lines". plum you are of course making a point I have made a number of times. The hypocrisy of NZ is particularly galling. They ahve been the big beneficiaries of the politically led destruction of Bok rugby.
Also, I don't see any other national teams threatening to boycott us. They're just happy to win unlike in the past when it suited them to boycott us.
A full Lions side including Redlinghuys would have done better. They are a team and play as a team.
The Boks are a shambles led by a nice guy but one who simply is not up to the job. The only question is how many quotas were forced on Coetzee - ie what team would he have selected.

Okay the siren song for Combrink, Rohan, Faf, Ackerman, Kriel and Whiteley. The truth is Combrink and Rohan were horrible on the YE tour. And Rohan's defence is worse than Step's. Faf played some good rugby off the bench against Ireland and then became a basket case. Ackerman is a good player, but I thought all you chaps thought duPreezx2 is the answer. As for Whiteley a heady chap, but the ABs were very physical and Whiteley and Kriel would have been challenged to contribute close in.
..
What might have made a difference was playing the whole Lions team....and engaging a witch doctor.....but my guess is it was still going to be a rout.

Come now, Stipid ... that's just another desperate attempt at discrediting the Lions ...
What you are in fact saying is that they could not have done any better than Rhule and Serfontein ... or Cassiem and Kolisi. Why? Because they're Lions?
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaaa!!!
Have you decided to return to your previous horsesh!t theories of how bad the Lions are? You've already done the mandatory 180 on your initial opinion ... ? Let me guess, Stipid ... you don't really know what to think anymore, right? It changes from day to day ... week to week ... year to year.
Now it's a this ... later it's the exact opposite.
Nothing's changed ... you're still as confused as ever, Stipid ... but least you're not leaving us with quite as many blank posts these days.
LOL!!!

What pisses one off is that JA and his coached Lions showed us the way to success and the future type of format our rugby should take to flourish and it did appear for a fleeting period that there was some spinoff...sadly though Ackerman has gone across the seas and our Springbok coaching and selection is back to slowly increasing shambles it seems.
The key was Ackerman 's coaching and since he's gone the Lions boys left in the squad...the fool AC has no clue how to put a side together let alone any game plan...absolute meaningless defence without the slightest intelligent clue how to attack.

For me the question seems to be about how big the step up to test level really is.
So, how much better are the ABs than the Crusaders? For me, not a great deal better.
We have a proven quantity in the Lions and a totally unproven quantity in the Boks. Considering the state of SA rugby, wouldn't it be safter to hedge out bets, start with one team at national level and then build on that team over a period of years.
They did this at the start of the year but went only half in. That worked against lesser teams but was shown Saturday.
The only reason that I can see against this approach is that it's unconventional and would upset the rugby public who care more about having their their club and race equally represented in the national side. Aside from that there are no downsides.
So, when R assie arrived we'll see what approach he takes.

Discussing the loss margin, the priviledge to lose. As announced aeons ago.
By the way, the zero point scored by SA is harsh on them. So even that team could lose by less. Pointless to look for other players that the current line up.

It is getting better and better.
Excellent men distort things to manipulate perception of things and later, forget the manipulation and start to deal with stuff as if there were not fabricated.
Newsflash: the level of this SA SR side was fabricated. It was the result of an undeserved heavy advantage that warped the outcome look.
Summary:
-this team got the advantage by avoiding to face NZ teams during the group stage.
-This team had to rely on reffing to move another SA team out during quarter finals (they were protected because the other SA team did not have the same advantage)
-This team was bossed for a half time by a NZ team during the semi finals, before that team sunk because of the fatigue caused by the undeserved advantage.
-This team failed to win against a NZ team in the final as that team came in and managed themselves well enough to offset the undeserved advantage.
-Last but not the least, due to their training course, NZ players are drilled to give the best with the AB shits on their shoulders.
Nevertheless, this team is proposed as a cope out to play the ABs on an away game...
The stuff tales are made.

Poor old Chaballs, full of vitriol. Why would that suddenly happen. Well let me guess, he had no response to my pointing out that I'd rather be in jury court in the US, than sent without trial to a Russian Gulag. Hahaha. And then the smelly bit. Apparently, according to Chaballs his granny stank....so that means all mature players run that risk. Not if you are clean Chaballs.....brush your teeth, shower and wash your hair ( if you have any).....there is no reason your family had to stink Chaballs, they were just dirty.

We won't even get to what you thought of the Lions style of play and Ackerman in the early stages when they were setting the pace...it would be too embarrassing and it will hurt your weak ego as the worlds top fundi in rugby matters...lol.
Stick to boasting, pretense, music, mate and golf...it seems more your scene....and the truth if thats possible. You can fool some here but not Seb.
and Creampuff you are a hypocrite...you rightly condemn those who attack family but you have just done so yourself...in insulting my family and my wife who is Russian.
Unbeknown to you...my family are of the highest calibre and farming stock...not low life city slickers that grew up in the urbanised suburbs of Cape Town.
You are a huge disappointment...I once mistakenly thought you a decent fellow but you fooled me...you are a complete farce.
