and why.

Always listen to Beeno who knows a good lock when he sees one.

Also did you all hear how complementary the commentators were of Steph Du Toit. Beeno getting it right once again!

It's funny, this game is being used as evidence that Lood will do the Boks proud, but I cite what he did and didn't do for the Boks, which is supposedly subsidiary to a game of carnival rugby.
The trendies have it back to front. Again.
I'll watch the game later and see how it really unfolded.

So now that it is called touch rugby - oops I saw a hell of a lot of tackles and Pieter-Stef ended up with a broken nose - so what touch rugby was played.  He went back on the field when  it was clear that the other lock di no do the job properly.

By the way Mozart - for the first time two real locks got rolling mauls going this year - they did not o anything like hat against the Pumas either.   The few that really got going in the tests were started and co-ordinated by Du Toit anyway - he even saved the one in the French test from disintegrating,    Tell you lot something?????

Steph was not a factor in any maul against France. Mostert redirected and stabilised the game winning maul. Every maul initiated by Steph failed.

More then that, Lood was physically dominated when playing for the Boks. He wasn't a factor. Not test material. His poor endurance, mobility, hands and tackling showed itself on tour. A throwback to 1950s rugby.

Balls AO - you refuse to recognize what really happened.  The maul was going backwards with Mostert with both feet in the air. until Du Toit took control of the maul.

Are you always addicted talking tripe about players you personally dislike.   what tour did you talk about?   Erasmus made the mistake of not replacing Mostert with De Jager - weakening the Tight 5 in the process.

I think the lack of physicality of Mostert is going to lead to  him not being in the Springboks squad in future.     .

No - their were only 8 Springboks in the starting line-up - on e of them being Brits,   There are a number of key players whose performances are being discussed.     Pollard was not red hot - but Du Toit and De Jager were.

And there were elements of the game that showed a huge improvement on what the Springbok team showed this year - eg driving mauls and the role of the two players mentioned showed that it can still be done.   .

From what I've seen on the highlights reel, the Argentinian maul defense was shit. The Baabaas even mauled over from a De Allende lineout take. No organization at all - one Bargie hanging this side of the maul, two others hanging that side, a few in front trying to stop the entire Baabaas pack.

With the second maul try there were two Argentinians countering the back of the maul against the entire Baabaa pack. A few were again hanging on to the side as the maul rumbled forward. Steph took clean ball, landed, and the Baabaa pack just pushed straight through a non-existent counter. Again, no semblance of maul defense from Arg.

We haven't faced any maul defense this ineffective in test rugby this year.

Pakie

The Pumas forwards was much the same as the forwards playing for them in the RC - where we had problems with rolling mauls as well.   They were strong enough to stop mauls - like they did in the RC - so what makes the difference?   I think it has much top do with De Jager and Du Toit at work.

A classvc by ou Organhuffer!!! Hahahaahhahahahahahahahahaha

Poor endurance - Lood played the whole fast paced match!!!

Mobility - did ou Organfuffer see the try Lood scored. Lood is mobile for a lock!

Tackling - last stats i saw re the match showed Lood topping the tackling stats ahead of Steph.

Bwahahahahahhahahahahaha no more bias please Organhuffer, give credit where it is due!

A complete bomb out by the Organhuffer!

Dr Mox this was a hard fought match and Du Toit showed the scars of battle.

Congrats to Baa Baas on huge fight back! Congrats to MAN of the match - LOOD DE JAGER - WELL DESERVED.

It doesn't matter if they had the same forwards as in the RC. They didn't seem to have any organized maul defense yesterday. That's something you have to actively work at organizing. The Argies didn't seem to be bothered with it yesterday based on the two tries I've seen. I'll try to review the rest of the game if I can get hold of it.

Lood’s late-season message to Boks

While a Barbarians match should never be used as a major yardstick for Test credentials or positional pecking orders, the lanky Bulls lock nevertheless left a handy little summer missive about his desire to be integral to Springbok plans once more, for World Cup year, at Twickenham on Saturday.

De Jager, in a BaaBaas cause coached by his national mastermind Rassie Erasmus, earned himself an early birthday present - he turns 26 in just over two weeks - through the player-of-the-match mantle in a late snatch of the spoils against Argentina.

The eternally popular multinational outfit, albeit heavily dominated by South Africans on the day, broke the hearts of a motivated (certainly evident in their bouts of tetchiness) Pumas team as Elton Jantjies’ cool 79th-minute dropped goal broke the deadlock for a 38-35 result.

This contest wasn’t always an oil painting, by any means, as a plethora of handling errors by both sides had a disruptive effect on continuity.

But the reasonable London crowd also had good reason to applaud enough, compelling passages of play … and revel in the extent of the fightback by the BaaBaas.

Beginning with five Springboks in the pack and three behind the scrum, they had looked set for a possible hiding by around the 25th minute, when Pablo Matera and company opened up a formidable 28-7 lead, their superior cohesion as a Test group quite obvious at the time.

Perhaps a little too buoyed by the public desire for them to fling the ball around in time-honoured “BaaBaas spirit”, Erasmus’s charges were just too loose and cavalier initially: how often, for instance, do you see Pieter-Steph du Toit, of all people, putting through a grubber, or De Jager executing a cheeky through-the-legs pass?

But as their foothold on the game improved, so did the BaaBaas’ belief that a come-from-behind triumph was feasible.

De Jager, who stayed on the park throughout and seldom dipped in urgency, played an integral part in the turnaround, registering the levelling try in the 75th minute.

It was a pleasing one, too, as he rounded off a move sparked by compatriot Jesse Kriel’s clever snipe and offload with a trademark, eager gallop for the posts.

For someone of 2.06m and hardly feather-light at 125kg, De Jager has fine acceleration out of the blocks and then long, powerful strides that make him incredibly hard to tackle decisively. (Please note Organhuffer!!!!!!!!!)

He is certainly expanding his reputation for scoring tries through thunderous surges: at least two in the green and gold jersey coming quite swiftly to mind.

The first was on just his third Test appearance - and maiden start - against Scotland at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in June 2014, when he looked more like a speeding wing, and then he got another easy-on-the-eye dot-down from longish range against Japan at the 2015 World Cup, an achievement cruelly lost to the memories of many in the drama of that stunning Brighton defeat for the Boks.

His 2018 season cruelly curtailed by a lengthy injury layoff in the middle of it, De Jager stayed largely peripheral on the end-of-year tour as he slowly regathered his mojo, and his quest for the No 5 jersey not aided by Franco Mostert’s admirable reliability in the berth.

But if former Lions favourite Mostert is renowned for the consistency of his general industry and sound lineout management, De Jager may always have the edge in athleticism and arguably even grunt at close quarters; he is a notably bigger physical specimen.

The BaaBaas game did provide a reminder that De Jager is spiritedly after the now UK-based Mostert’s Bok starting berth in the critical 2019 calendar year, especially as the player-of-the-match adjudicator, BBC commentator and former Wales star Jonathan Davies, lauded as “immense” De Jager’s work-rate and tackling on Saturday.(PLEASE NOTE DR MOORGANHUFFER!!!!)

But the fixture also highlighted the professionalism and sheer toughness of Du Toit, the versatile marauder who has so sparkled as a blindside flanker for South Africa this year, (PLEASE NOTE DR MOZ AND ORGANHUFFER!!!!!) yet will remain an appealing candidate himself for an international lock place if ever the need comes around.

The Stormers man had a sickening, accidental clash of heads with Matera in the 64th minute, crashing to the turf with blood quickly flowing from a crack right on the bridge of his nose and his eyes inevitably blackening quite ominously.

It seemed for all money that his afternoon was over ... but he resurfaced, noticeably rearranged nose and all, in the last three minutes or thereabouts to greatly aid the BaaBaas in closing out the result in their favour.

For his monumental efforts throughout 2018, Du Toit surely deserved to head off for his summer holiday defiantly standing for a rugby cause ... (hOOR hOOR!!!!!)

Well one can only hope Dr Moz and and Organhuffer accept the obvious and admit they got it all wrong. You are making ou maaaikie look good. Hahah ahahaahhahah ahahaha

What are you smoking????  You cannot come up with that kind of illogic on site and hope it will be accepted as factual.   There is a  big difference between "seem to be" and fact,   The opposing forwards have all been in the Pumas side and they worked on it for the full year - so your "seems to be" is just like the BS normally spread by AO on site.

Let him do it at least three times in real test conditions before we change our minds too much.

If he recaptures some of his form then awesome.

The Bok locks are beginning to understand that passengers won't get a game.

Call it the Mostert effect.

Okay, where is the Argentine counter maul setup with this maul try? As the maul starts rolling forward there are only two Argies opposing it, while almost the whole Baabaa team is blanketed in there. If you call that an organized counter maul, Mike, you need to have your eyes tested. Even the commentator said "that was too easy though, wasn't it?"

Well ... put it this way ... it's been a long time since Mozart's been able to discern the difference between a talented rugby player and the tired and useless he rates as our way forward.

He's totally clueless.

If he had his way we'd see Morne at 10 ... Fats Steyn at 12 ... Alberts at 6 ... with Pienaar at 9 and Matfield in at 5.

Luckily ... all we have to do is endure his ignorance and stupidity on here.

Pakie, AO and Mozart have huge problems in trying to divert attention away from the fact that their hero Mostert was found wanting when it came to driving mauls and so they must get on and ask questions they know should be basis on which mauls are formed and co-ordinated.   .

Listen the fact is that the change in direction is a basic requirement for successful mauls and it happens ALL THE TIME.   It does not happen when the ball catching lock is pushed off his feet like happened in the French test.    You chose a pick when the maul was already at speed going forward - went 20 seconds earlier and you would have found how the maul was formed and what happened next,

The time between Steph catching the ball in the lineout and that screenshot is 2.2 seconds. This entire maul, from lineout catch to covering the 5m to the tryline to referee awarding the try took 5.41 seconds . You don't need to change direction when you have about 10 guys pushing against 2.

Pakie was it two when the maul was formed?

Yep. #3 and #6 (white). #5 (red) then binds to #6 but the maul is already rumbling by this time and he ends up clinging to the side. Both he and #2 and #4 who tries to join after that just gets dragged along.

But then there were two successful mauls leading to tries and  why ar you not dealing with both?

First one was much better as with the short throw the Argies get a decent counter initially, but again they respond slowly with only 4 of them joining the contest while the Baabaas pile in with almost everyone they've got. Once they start rolling more Argies start joining but it's too late, they're outnumbered and the maul has gained unstoppable momentum. Steph and Lood seems prominent at the head of this one.

Argentina for whatever reason seemed reluctant to fully commit to defending the maul, with players standing off before taking action.
