What do we do when it comes to selecting a side against them at Twickers We don’t want to fuck up and lose the game thanks to an experimental side but equally it’s an opportunity to blood some new talent So we can either pick a completely merit side or we can pick a mix of merit and new or an experimental side with a loaded bench of merit players What do we do? The fact that we are playing Portugal offers an opportunity to select an experimental side

Yes the Welsh will be back so that’s why I think we should mostly go with a merit side but maybe throw in a handful of youngsters

The safe bet would be to select a youngish starting side against Wales and load the bench with our stars. Something along the lines of: 15. Gelant 14. Fassi 13. Moodie 12. Willemse 11. Arendse 10. Libbok 9. Williams 1. Steenkamp 2. Marx 3. Wilco Louw 4. Moerat 5. Ruben v Heerden 6. Kwagga 7. Elrigh Louw 8. Roos 16. Andre-Hugo Venter 17. Ox 18. Malherbe 19. Etzebeth 20. PSDT 21. Faf 22. de Allende 23. Am

Yup, I wrote about it a while back. I just don't want to drop another test match against Wales when we know we should walk this one. We did field a youth team before the world cup where we destroyed them.

But it is always the first game of the season that we struggle to get our team right. Only during world cups do we play at our full potential. Remember schalc saying it's because players come from all over where as in NZ they are in the same country and same teams.

That said, I would bring the Japan based players with a mixture of SA youngsters and some old heads.

The Ireland will be the big one for me. Not sure why we are playing the Poras in the 3rd test match. We also need to get some proper mid week SA A games in

No experimental sides please. Incremental changes. A smooth transition etc. I think there are a number of guys who have some test experience and who have performed who can start. You cant though have too many changes.

Next thing you lose against Wales and ou mozzie will be all over us like a rash demanding Rassie resigns.

Every test must be won is my philosophy. Against weaker sides you introduce a few players who may not be your frontline guys etc.
