The game in Brisbane is seen as key for a Bok run on the RC....how would we best approach this match? There is a lot of doom and gloom stuff after predictably we went flat in Bargieland, calls for more speed and flavour of the day youngsters who are way not prepared for test rugby. - Forget that nonsense. NZ has the capability to blow away Oz in a wide open game. We don't.....not yet, and we aren't suddenly going to discover that in the Aussie fortress. - But the Lions beat Oz in the pack, dominating their scrum and negating their fetchers. And they kicked their goals....is the penny dropping? Sure there was the odd good backline move.....but fundamentally they choked the life out of Oz.
So how do we achieve the same thing. Well we certainly don't drop Morne....that would be stupid....very stupid. We might also have to consider the Willie role. If we are going to play tight rugby....how does Willie fit in. On the wing in my view. Bye bye Basson....and farewell JJ.....we just can't afford to leak tries from perfectly ordinary set moves. Serfontein joins Jean and hopefully F du P can be released somehow.
In the pack there are cries to get rid of all the loosies and Kruger. I like Blikkies' suggestion to bring in Bakkies....Lood, Pieter Stephanie, Flip Flop wont do the job.....the first two aren't ready, the last one never will be ready.
I do agree we need some more pace at loosie. ....especially if the Quaalude plays. To me that means Louw has to go, he hasn't been a factor this year. I would put Brussouw in the team. He is a warrior.....this match will only be won by warriors.
- After that strengthening of the team we need to focus on tactics. Vermeulen and Alberts who were at 80% yesterday need to be at their most physical. We need to take a leaf from the Bargie book and up the counter rucking effort.....the Beast and Jannie need to get stuck in. And it's up to the Beast to take advantage of the Ben Alexander gift. - We also must avoid kicking aimlessly to the back three...they will be dangerous, especially if they lose Mogg.....and we wont have the team speed to cover any breakouts.Kicking less entails a huge physical effort, Alberts and Vermeulen in the pack and Serfontein in the backs will have to make lots of hard yards in small increments. We can't count on JJ running gloriously through open space....this will be real rugby. - But contrary to what one chump said, Jean is in great form, if Serfontein can get him the ball with some room....he will breach the Aussie defence. And our wings, hopefully Habana and Willie are good enough to finish any opportunities. - That's the deal guys.....it's going to be test rugby....won by the warriors who want it most. Forget the fantasies, to win we will have to be brutal, just like the Lions.
