Mvovo did some good things, but isn't the finished product at 15. But how good was NDungane. And Zelinga was excellent, much more ready than Swiel. And how about Alberts, what a great game he had....including the cover tackle that stopped a first Tahs try.
As usual Jake is miles ahead of his critics. Beset by injuries he cleverly covered all the bases. He has guys like Fransie playing to their potential....and the team never got distracted by the Tahs dirty play

The resident World Authorities will insist that Jake was very stupid and that his positional changes were ineffective.....sit back and watch how they kick and scream their way out of this one.

Hi Denny, I got your offer, thanks mate...
As far as Jake is concerned, they keep throwing him curve balls and he keeps hitting them out the park.

Problem is that our resident World Authorities not only know better than Jake, they also know better than any other coach on our planet....just ask em and they will tell you.

Predictably, Dave will tell you that Mvovo did nothing and that Alberts was ineffective and Mike will insist that Alberts buggered up and that Steyn is bloody useless.

Jake plugging the holes and mending the fence as best he could will fly straight over their flat heads.

And Dave will still be huffing and puffing because Jake shrewdly played Zeilinga and not Swiel....and left out Esterhuizen.

This from Supersport kinda sums it up...

"This wasn’t a memorable match for the Kings Park faithful, but it wasn’t for want of trying by a Sharks team that from the outset gave an indication of why White had emphasised pace at the back and mobility at the front when he made his selections."

Jake is not stupid but there certainly were hints of suspect (home town) ref calls/TMO and Touch judge decisions at crucial points in the match me thinks.

Hakwa, Just in case you've missed what Moz said and before you do the deep dive...the ref is not a South African.

Denny and Moz, refs/TMOs/touch judges don't have to be from any particular country to ensure the bounce of the ball favours the home side. It just looks worse if they belong to that particular location when said decisions are made. Ludicrous when you take BL for instance officiating between the Boks and the Wallabies who was then blamed for a "home town" decision when the ABs were not even on the Park!

I will no doubt have to have a look at the game - I was watching cricket as previously mentioned.    However, statistically the backline showed no penetration at all - so I will have to take a look at the game and see whether that was indeed the case.
Statistically Zeilinga was solid and he did not make any mistakes.   "Excellent" is a description i would not give to his performance.
And playing at lock is where Alberts should play - as a loosie he is a headache.

I thought that it was a master stroke from Jake. He made his pack more mobile and put a lot of pace in the back three. Sburo Sithole has been a revelation at 13. Made crucial tackles and showed some good hands and pace. Good prospect at 13.
I thought Alberts did better at lock then at 7. A lot bussier than in the past. Just proves that he is a tight forward and only suited to play at 7 in nothern hemisphere conditions.

Even with Folau the Waratahs would have struggled, especially with the added pace. Jake thinks tactically, he does his analysis thoroughly. Very un-South African in todays South Africa.

I disagree about Alberts being strictly a tight-forward. At 7 he was a key player alongside Duane in our dominance at the breakdown; in the both hemispheres!.

I admit I'm wrong about Albert's, he's a good player but I do stand by the point that he had a poor year performance wise last year. He's rampaging through this season.
I also admit that Steyn is not showing enough on attack, yes he takes 2 defenders but where is his creativity. I have yet to see an offload, but he has done some good things but just not up to the standard of Fransie that I saw in RWC 2011 etc.

Alberts' cover tackle in the first minutes of the game on a move which started 50 metres back and was within 5 metres of the line, showed his loosie credentials. Up north for the RWC he is a starting loosie....who could could shift to lock for the last 20 minutes. I think PSD may be used the same way. We have massive powerful locks on offer and then there is Matfield....a player who can still dominate games....as he did yesterday against the AB starting number 5.

Your idea of playing to potential as mentioned above  leaves me with one question - is being cited for dangerous/illegal play part of the potential you are in favour of?

Moz, Matfield is still the King of the Air but he shies away from the tight stuff which is questionable being part of the tight five.

Well said cheeser matfield takes his ball in the lineout and thats about it. Willemse is of course better. His fans are worse than pop star groupies and fail to see how very weak he is otherwise. Bwahahahahaha apologies to these starry eyed fans!!
Alberts was as I predicted good at lock -his work rate at 7 is inadequate and Deysel is a better 7. Zeilinga as predicted is a good talent and showed his composure and of course Sweil was not the right pick for now.Mvovo was a concern but about did enough and didnt foul up. Give him more chances and let' s see where this goes.

Yesterday was a good example of what Matfield delivers....complete dominance of the most important set play, security at kickoff and the occasional brilliant offload. That's more than any other lock I can think of....ask Rettallik.

Mvovo is not a fullbacks backside, he did nothing to show that his selection there was a good one. Zeilinga did absolutely nothing different to what Swiel did....at best he had a solid game.

The proof is in the pudding...the trouble, Moz is that SA rugby fans are conditioned to conservatism and feel unsafe when there's innovation and improvisation...Jake obviously knows what he is doing and has a plan and vision and does it one step at a time.

He has already silenced and confounded his critics and I sincerely believe this is only the beginning...he will carry on regardless what the mass think...that is what we need...some creative coach that marches to the beat of his own drum...to hell what critics say.

All those that criticised in the past have now become sicophants and lackeys...there will be a lot of egg on some faces yet...lolz.

Swiel was a deer in the headlights....Zeilinga was a confident player who made crisp decisions, landed all his kicks attacked the gain line and threw a few superb long passes. There is no comparison between how they did, Zeilinga was much better.

To lose both your key no 9 and 10 players all in one go against a vastly improved Bulls at Loftus is a devastating setback...it requires brilliant improvisation to use what is left on the bench...Swiel was given the chance and obviously an intimidating entrance for a relative rookie and did not do too bad under the circumstances but I think Zeilinga has proved better in the latest encounter. I believe the Sharks would have taken the previous match at Pretoria and that's not taking anything away from The Bulls ...they played very well in that match and all credit to them.

The point is Jake knows how to improvise with what players he has left...Mvovo certainly did not disgrace when moved to fullback. Juggling around players when you know what you are doing is a strength with White...simply because he understands the game far better than the run of the mill, Joe Soap coach.

Neither did Frans Steyn when he was called to play no 10 at a drop of a hat 3 games before when PL had tick bite fever.

What absolute nonsense......there was basically no difference between the game played by Swiel and Zeilinga.

More to the point Swiel is a far better rugby player and Jake needs to wake up to this fact

Perhaps you should go have your eyes checked, Stupid!!

Night and day. No comparison.

Not that I'm saying Zelinga is the better player of the two.

Different circumstances. Zelinga knew he would start while Swiel was surprised with an early entry.

A little unfair to compare the two performances if you ask me.

I agree totally unfair...I agree with Moz though Fred was indeed crisper but two different circumstances...I believe both these guys have what it takes and it will take time and experiment to do a just test...but as the Sharks stand now I'm sure that Fred will be the key starter.

Just a damn shame about Lambie....not too worried about Charl though...I have always rated him.

I'm not worried too how Jake uses either of them because he has that uncanny ability to bring the best out of any good player...he just has that vision and ability that is so lacking in most coaches.

There was a massive difference between Swiel and Zeilinga......Zeilinga wanted to make decisions, Swiel wanted to pass. Nobody is saying Swiel can't develop, but he is not ready....Jake was right. The fact that Jake had Swiel on the bench before Lambie got hurt shows he thinks he has perhaps the better long term potential. The fact that he started Zeilinga shows he feels Zeilinga is more ready. As usual he is probab ly right.

Jake is an excellent coach, but hee seems to like the taste of his own feet. See he had a dig at the Tahs coach in a press interview...again. His big mouth is his worst enemy. He will remain a dick in my book. Even worse than Mallet.
