Pretty much what you get is today’s team and tactics. Marx will come on earlier if things are going wrong. For the rest we have 3 locks, a token passenger and captain and the Allende/ Am centre combination. The tactics are still the box kicks and finding Kolbe/ Mapimpi on breakouts... plus a few set moves that will work against sleepy opposition. What could go wrong? Mostly being countered at forward or exploited in the rush. Getting behind wouldn’t be good because we don’t have a real attack. Can we take Ireland, Wales and the ABs in sequence.Tough but possible.... unfortunately nothing we saw today is useful information. But at a 60 per cent win probability, doing it 3 times in a row is only a 20 per cent chance. Call it a fighting chance.

Yes, Kolbe was the only back who showed any thing worth getting excited about. It would help if Le roux could perform but he seems pretty useless. So other than Kolbe, the Boks are back to relying on forwards, defense, box kicks and penalties. Good luck with that.

Goodness only knows what's up with Willie and Faf.

Are we really gonna rely on the smallest chap on the side to be our best player?

Nothing against Kolbe but one big hit from the wrong guy and and there goes our best back.

Poor opposition do drag ones performance down. Probably applicable to some degree today.

Still, it was scrappy and the back line just look weird. Like they're unsure, unaware of space and really can't execute.

Italy were right in the game until the idiotic choice to dump Thor on his pip.

Hopefully they don't don't read too much into the win.

de Allende and Am were good today so I have no issue with our centre pair they are no worse than the likes of SBW, Crotty etc. Our halfbacks are world class but lacking form right now, same applies to Willie. Our wings are on fire with Nkosi yet to be rewarded. I’d add Willemse ahead of useless Frans on the bench and see what he can do

Which top 8 team would sub our centres for their's. New Zealand....nope Ireland ....nope Wales........nope England....nope Bargie....nope Australia......no way France......never. So what do we conclude? That our centres are a competitive liability. Not only would they not be superior as a pair....of the 14 centre slots available in our opponents, not one would be filled by our centres. Its a big issue.

Oh what crap the only foreign centre I would take right now would be Kerevi for the rest give me our Bok players anyday along with Serfontein, Janse v Rensburg and Esterhuizen Would I want Fickou, Fofana, SBW, Crotty, Slade, Francis, Joseph, Ringrose, Aki, de la Fuente, Moroni, O’Connor, Lealifano, Toomua, Kuridrani, Farrell, Henshaw or Parker ahead of Serfontein/ de Allende and Kriel/ Janse v Rensburg/ Am.... no way in hell Worth consideration are Kerevi, Goodhue, Lienert- Brown for sure. Davies and Tuilagi possibly given Davies is class but done nothing of note for ages and Tuilagi is never around long enough to judge

Hahaha....I'm just recalling your prediction that Serfontein would be a greater Springbok centre than JdV. Hell Dave, with that prediction and your view that Allende and Am are better than all except Kerevi.....I rest my case. You know zippo about centre play.

yeah watched bit of that game last night - suffice to say the midfield is no PDV and Fourie...  and Italy... i thought would have put up more of a show...

The commentary made the point the italians were dominated by the physicality of the bok... and if there was ever comparative advantage the boks have in rugby it is this.

Pollard is all class - strange we dont hear too much on here re him - I think if Faf gets his delivery right the bok backline may yet build and peak at the right time..

Interesting Saffex that the only centre you's have is Kerevi...(got a case of serious non-gay man love for him too btw)... I think he and Kohlbe so far are the tournaments standout backs... 

Is kohlbe's injury serious if so - shame as he truly is a little dynamo... reminds me a little of (england league convert?) Robinson? a decade back or so... 

Frankly Boks need to play their strengths and use the brawn they have in spades... not many teams can absorb that kind of beating... 

The Boks have shown in the last 2yrs that the ABs are suscetible to this physicality... only england and ireland to me can match them in this area...

anyway - not the most clinical display by the boks...  saying that still won easily...

tournament rugby always about the build no need to peak in the pools...

Damn right I’d have our centres ahead of that list of international centres I listed as ours are better Serfontein decided to leave SA and is currently injured. But prior to the injury he was the best 12 in French rugby. Been on fire for Montpellier and easily a better 12 than Jean I know centre play something you have never grasped

Our centres are the best we have ATM, and works well with our game plan. Nothing spectacular, but not the doom and gloom they are made out to be either.

The simplest plan is usually the best plan. Solid defense and a deadly finisher for the slightest of opportunities...Kolbe is doing what Habana used to do.

Draad there are no test centres ripping defences apart because of the nature of defences today. Are Farrell and Tuilagi ripping the Argies apart right now - NO Our centres are as good and better than the rest of the test centres out there

Agreed, it's not nearly as bad as most lead on. Danie Gerbers and Jean de Villiers' are not easy to come by. The next great centre might be joust around the corner, but we are OK in the meantime.

Draad I’m telling you now Jean would not do any better than current centres in this test environment. It’s a hard art standing out consistently. Same with Gerber - Danie was class but he would not have played with the freedom he had back then

Funny Saffex, do you recall mentioning about 100 times JJ beating Julian Savea ONCE (from memory) and using that as an excuse for JJ to be selected for the Boks ad infinitum???

Rugby union appears to have adopted a  back line defense similar in play to rugby league which does not allow the breaks made in earlier years by players such as GDV or Gerber.

The opposing defense back line seems to be flatter and quicker to the ball carrier compared to years gone by.

It thus follows that many a good #12 today is not allowed the same space to get up to speed with the ball as has been the case in the past.

Most times the #12 receives the ball and the defense at the same time.
