The French team were just good enough to tie with Italy. But admittedly they played a man down, losing the second half by 7 points. A bit less than the model predicted….but if the Italian kicker was a Pollard, it would have been the exact model 10 points.

The ten points we should have put over NZ, rather than the 1 point we won by.

In the meantime, Scotland thrashes the Poms by 30 points to 21, showing again the safety first tactics Eluckmiss used against the Poms just put the WC at risk and making a mockery of our 1 point win.

Amazing how the data comes together to reinforce the points I have been making.. France was vastly overrated but should have beaten us. England was there for the thrashing but we were lucky to win. And NZ were by far the better team, but it’s a ten point handicap per 40 minutes.

Critically these games are frequently won or lost by the kicker.

What you are missing Dave there are 15 players in both teams. And their 15 players played our’s to the point the match came down to the kickers.

France had a very good side at the RWC. So did Ireland. Possibly the best teams they have produced. 

Kriel said Scotland were their hardest match. I didn't watch the You Tube video featuring Kriel but what I do know is the Boks had an extremely tough road to the final and played a good nz side.

I honestly don't know if poor mozzietard, obsessed as he is about Rassie, will survive a third Rassie RWC win. Two wins have clearly shattered the poor oak. How much more can he take!

If you have 14 good players and a kicker in the squad that is not up to international standard such as we got saddled with but thankfully Pollard was eventually called up to save the Springboks.

As for Pollard not being selected. The team was chosen more than 2 months before the crucial matches…..plenty of time to get Pollard match fit. Manie bottled out….,our kicking percentage against Ireland was 20%. Is that the guy you want taking a 55 meter kick to beat France?

Given our pack and WC pedigree, we should have been winners. We demonstrated that at Twickenham. Erasmus’ tactics almost lost  the WC and Pollard saved it.

And as for defending the lead…haha….we were only in the lead at minute 69 against France and minute 78 against England. Bishops under 15 could defend that lead.

Cry me a river Dave. Groupies ignore reality. The real supporter demands the best of his team and what we saw at the WC was a long way short of what the team is capable of. 

You think we have the best talent in rugby by some margin. I agree.  How does a team with those resources scrape home on the superiority of its kicker. I’ll tell you why, because the coach’s never take a risk strategy brought every first level team we played into the contest.

There was nothing innovative about this coaching job, the extreme bench split aside and that was another roll of the dice. And many of the selection decisions were nuts…..4 scrummies , no reserve hooker…leaving Pollard at home.

I have no issue with the Boks winning the world cup.

The best game the Boks played in 2023 was the AB game at Twicks.

Gave them no respect. Marx bossed proceedings, drawing ire in the form of a cheap shot. And our midfield was dangerous as all hell. 

One could argue that had the ref given the ABs more leeway with their early-push maul defense, the complexion of the game'd likely be different.

Still, it was easily the best performance of the year.

And I think it's more down to personnel more than anything else. 

This Bok team really needs Marx. In my opinion, he's the righteous captain. I'm happy for Kolisi and he does seem to be a wonderful guy. But this is rugby and Marx is his superior.

Marx is without doubt the world's best hooker. Possibly the greatest hooker rugby has seen? The Boks were extremely unlucky he got injured as he makes an Etzebeth like difference to the pack. Bongi on the bench strengthens the Bomb squad.

But Marx is not the only unfortunate injury that hit the Boks. Pollard missed the Irish test. Then we had the great "Lomp" who fit and on form is a world class lock. We had Am a class center out.

Had we been able to have all this players fit from the beginning of the RWC we would undoubtedly not have lost a match and undoubtedly have won by bigger margins.

Despite all this Rassie and his team still secured a RWC much to the horror of ou Mozzietard who is now trying to wiggle out of his decades long trashing of Rassie.

Rassie did a great job. Give credit where it is due.

Pollard misses from 55 meters, and we exit in the QF against a team that were tied by Italy. And absent Marx’s injury that kick was going to be taken by Manie who had just landed one and missed 4 against Ireland ….hahaha….genius.

Dave it is always better to defend a point lead towards the end of a game as opposed to trailing the other team.

Sure the other 14 players had to perform and defend to maintain a good defence in the dying minutes of a game to ensure victory but if the points gained from that kick did not count what would the result have been

Pollard won us the game by converting a kick that the other #10 would not have made.
