We got absolutely no change out of the Irish scrum until we switched out Malherbe and Kitshoff. After that, even if the ref made some dubious calls, we were clearly dominant.

Is that enough to give up other areas where the starters were better? Don’t know. But for a while now the guys on the bench today have been our best scrummagers.

Frans Malherbe hasn't scrummed well for some time, and he is nowhere outside the scrum. Koch looks like the form-tighthead.

Ox seems to be getting back into his best form.

Marx was poor by his own standards today. Although he was the best SA player in the 4 nations.

Well Moz there is an obvious difference. By the time the bench front row had come on Furlong arguably the best tighthead in the game was off. A little perspective might help. There was parity in the scrums which was a little disappointing and some dubious ref calls But then again our rolling maul close to the line was pretty average as well Disappointing games from Eben, Marx and Wiese who we rely on a lot

Perhaps I’d buy that if the same pattern hadn’t been evident for a while….Kitshoff and Malherbe are neutral in most tests, not dominant.

Rubbish our scrum has been dominant for some time and should have been yesterday but for some very dubious ref calls
