from here? Nowhere really. I'm expecting Coetzee to hang onto Rhule, Skosan as well as Lomp and the rest of a static backline. Furthermore there aren't any shiny tools in the shed.
We're stuck with Coetzee, he won't be fired, failure is acceptable to SARU and the ANC as long as he fulfils quota targets. Winning is of secondary importance. Jake, Meyer and even PDV failed to meet targets and  Jake would never have suffered schoolboy light weights.
In all fairness Coetzee shouldn't carry the entire blame, the scary bit is that his assistants Franco Smith and Venter are equally to be blamed.
Also it should be abundantly clear that there isn't a half decent backline coach in the country, Franco Smith is just another in a long list of phony's. 

 
What puzzles me is that when Smith and Venter came in we all saw some changes to the way the Boks played. Their backline suddenly had better running lines, off loading in contact, support and a good defense. It was like night and day.

Then we went down under and everything reverted back to the "Toetie" style of play.

What happened?

Did he override their authority ... did he insist on doing it his way again?

I dunno ... all I can tell you is that the team that played against the useless French and Pumas is not the same one that played on Saturday. We were completely rudderless. Absolute no direction. No leadership whatsoever.

It was the same team. Sonny Bill Williams looked like a boxer against the palookas that the put him in the ring with. Would he still look like a boxer against Klitschko or Anthony Joshua?

I hope Australia thr ash them at home, we know the AB's will. 

Spot on and succinct Vlag. Who had the biggest voice retaining Rhule....has to be his long time coach Smith one would think. And while we looked good defending the Bargies.....our defence on Saturday looked more Italy in lthe last Six Nations, coached by Brendan Venter. .. Clearly these guys are better than Stick and had the team's confidence till Saturday. But can any of them do the job?

CC the backline skills did improve. BUT these players are incapable of operating against top sides. I can guarantee these midgets would look spectacular against Border.

Beside, it takes little to see that no team will bring anything but margin gain. This SA team is due to finish 2nd in the 4Ns. No SA team can end 1st.

It is not a story of quotas being met since they are not. It is simply that this brings what people wish: continuation of rugby in SA.

Rugby must be terminated in SA, people do not wish that. So people like the ANC (excellent men) have done what it takes for rugby to keep going. What they are unable to achieve, SA rugby winning stuff. It is beyond anyone's capacity.
They have come up with their tale of quotas to avoid facing the necessary termination of rugby in SA.

Delusion: SA rugby could win and be the dominant force in the world if they were not impaired with quota stuff.

Reality: SA rugby failed to comprehend when professionalism encompasses and means and can only be loser rugby, in a nation where kids die of starvation.


All that weaseling out shows that contrary to their claims, excellent men are not hard workers. They are extremelly big, fast, large consumers who reap the low hanging fruits before any one else. No contest about that.

But they are not hard workers. Hard work scares them. Retooling SA rugby would take hard work. A lot of it. Excellent men are unable of that.

So the kicking the can down the road situation will endure.

Neither the bravery of terminating rugby in SA nor the pain of the hard work required to found SA rugby.

Reality: SA rugby could put together a competitive team and remain around 3rd in the world. (in 2017)
However, we do not have the player resources to challenge the All Blacks- even if all overseas players were considered. 

 Sharkbok you are obviously a relative noob to rugby. Before isolation we had a better record against ALL test sides including the wee abs. Windpomp gave the details of that record.  Essentially the ANC has stuffed up Bok rugby in a variety of ways including the horrendous drop in value of the Rand.

 A competitive team to do what? Marginal gains only as addressed.

IRB rankings have little value.

Even more, the WC, due to the lack of countries playing rugby, usually offers an easy path to the final (2007). SA is once again elegible to have that easy path.

SA could make it to the next WC final. It does not mean they are competitive.

It was already told: winner rugby and loser rugby. Among the large number of countries playing loser rugby, there will be a number one. Always. It does change nothing in playing loser rugby.

A country can be second in the world and still playing loser rugby.

In 2007- SA had the likes of Habana, JP, Jean Devilliers, Frans Steyn, Fourie Dupreez (All in their prime). As well as forwards line Juan Smith, Schalk, Bakkies, Matfield, Roussow and more.
On paper, the 2007-2009 team was probably better than the All Blacks at that time (Only 10 years ago)- and probably would have contributed the most players to a World XV than any other nations. 

in 2017- We have lots of players, but not many that would walk into a world XV. (Perhaps Marx at 2).

Let's select locks at 7 and keep our quotas in place. HouGat is an excellent impact player so let's keep him too ... Beast is our best loosehead prop and not a quota ... so says our deluded brother.

GIVE ME 1 (ONE) PLAYER OF COLOUR IN THE CURRENT SQUAD THAT DOESN'T HAVE A BETTER WHITE OPTION SITTING AT HOME ... JUST 1 (ONE).

I reckon Ruhle will get the chop. Not even his skin colour can save him now. Maybe they'll get rid of Hougard too? Maybe even one or two other perpetual non performers, but it won't be enough. Actually, they could replace the whole team, it still won't help. They need to get rid of the coach. He is simply a bloody figure head, and everyone knows it.
