Out of this match 23.

I would say Orie, Beast (can't keep going long enough) and maybe Elstadt - he wasn't bad though.

Rassie has a job to cut RWC  to 31

Esterhuizen (aka Carthuizen) looked out of his depth at an international level, as was the case last year. The one weak area by the Boks today was the midfield defence. He was also fast asleep on one of the best Bok attacking movements earlier in the game, and the ball seemed to bounce off him before he was even aware someone had passed to him. I have seen Esterhuizen have some very good games for the Sharks, mostly last year. However, he has failed dismally on the international stage.

Frans Steyn added a presence to the midfield and was easily a better option. On attack, Steyn dominated the advantage line at ease on crash balls drawing in a few defenders. The ball was always cleared quickly from the ensuing ruck to create space. Steyn was also a linking player in perhaps the best backline passing movement try by the Boks

Eldstat was arguably in a position to tackle the first Australian try scorer, that was later disallowed. Eldstat appeared to lack the pace to make the cover tackle, or at least close-down space. This left a gaping hole, with Esterhuizen nowhere to be found. (before the yellow card). The team was arguably better as 14 men Esterhuizen less.

Orie is a quota, so he would not be in any squad size, to begin with. He is not a SuperRugby standard.

Red letter day I agree Sharkbok.  Inside centers Allende and Frans.

Wonder if Frans still does those long distance kicks.

Can Frans play 80 minutes.

Elstadt wasn't bad, solid enough...I saw enough to want another look...can't really complain about anyone but the ref...

I must say that this is probably the best test I saw Elton Jantjies play...not his greatest fan, but he didn't do much wrong and he did a couple of good things...we might do well at the RWC...pity we have to beat NZ or the Paddies to move past the quarters...well you never know what you don't know.

Yes Beenz, much better than 2 years ago....wasn't more than half of the run-on team non-white?....7-8 split I believe ....and I know we shouldn't look at these things....and I don't want to, but our government makes me do it!

I would also say Esterhuizen is out of contention - he is not a test level player.  Steyn crashballed and that is all he is actually capable of.

I did like what I saw of the following players

Herschel Jantjies. Reinach, Du Toit, De Jager

Andre was very good. His ability to contain Kerevi went a long way to helping the Boks take control of the game. The Wallabies went for size and it failed until later in the second half. Andre made two mistakes in that game: The kick directly into touch and the tackle for a yellow - which initially was below the shoulder. He was part of the Bok's first try, setting Nkosi away. Damian takes the ball back inside, taking contact. Every time. I covered more details in my ratings.

Steph and Lood were exposed for mobility. Steph and Elstadt were cleanly run through for the Aussie's first try. Both missed some tackles or allowed attackers to get behind them.

Lood was terrible at lineout time. When the Boks held their shape, he was more functional, especially in the first 20 minutes.

Frans was very powerful in contact. He ran right over Foley and dragged the defence back. Didn't really do anything wrong. His strength in contact to twist and offload to Elton was very impressive. That was the key movement in the build-up to that try. What mistakes did he make? There was one defensive situation I'd like to review, but it wasn't his man to tackle. Other then that? Nothing.

Elton was okay. His greatest contribution was the looping run for Nkosi's try. That's something he does much better than Pollard. Without the loop, the Boks don't score that try. Nearly threw an intercept though.

Elstadt was nowhere all game. He missed a few tackles and was beaten cleanly elsewhere. He made some strong carries early in the second half though. He looks like he may be a good ball carrier. J-Raz definitely made an error selecting him at 6.

Reinach's passing hasn't improved up north. Looked well off the standard set by Herschel and not a patch on Schreuder - the South African with the second highest total of try assists in Super rugby.

Coetzee made no impact. Weak at the breakdown and lacked punch in his carries. Exactly what I saw for Ulster.

Totally useless enough to set Nkosi away for Herschel's first try. He also did something Damian couldn't do in 2015: Defend an Aussie centre. He owned Kerevi.

Tell us more about the useless Louw while you are at it! There is so much egg to be had after this test. How does it feel Lügnerin?

Definition of "Andre was very good" as decided by World Authority, Augi..

Spill the ball, regain it by accident and then kick it out on the full all within the space of 30 seconds.

To add insult to injury a yellow for a head high tackle.

Oh alright, I've got it.

Spill the ball? You are being very liberal with the truth Herr Dingo. Winning a turnover is an accident? A head high tackle? Tisk, you've been spending too much time with the ghastly trio. You neglected to mention his oppression of the most dangerous Wallaby back on the field, their big weapon, Kerevi. The turnover won from his defence, his role in Herschel's first try. All omitted. By contrast Steph makes several errors, one massive gaff blowing the defence wide open and you conclude he had his best game ever!

Best you stick with World Authority Auge Association.

Louw had a great test but not as good as Steph who was everywhere.

Pity Esterhuized tripped up Steph from behind when Steph had out paced him as a try might have happened.

Steph tripped himself up. Running onto another person's feet is generally seen as clumsy. Maybe it's a new move he was working on with Lurch.

No - BSter

Du Toit was tripped by Esterhuizen.   But lets get it clear - the problem De Villiers had largely to do with Esterhuizen.   Kerevi ran past him twice with him being less  than 2 meters away and making no effort to make a tackle.   In one such case De jager had to make the tackle that Esterhuizen should at least have tried to make.

However, after being on the field for less than 40 minutes  you claimed that esterhuizen was superb. LMAO .

This is desperate stuff Lügnerin! We cannot have every player fall over themselves to tackle a player that is in front of someone else. You know why? You end up with the Ashley-Cooper try of 2015!

No one tripped anyone. Steph ran right into Esterhuizen's line of advance. Since Esterhuizen was moving faster at the time a collision was inevitable and that is what sent Steph to the ground.

Well, if Bongi hitting Lood in the face was the result of Bongi's "inaccurate" throwing why wouldn't Steph falling on his face be the fault of Andre? The plastics out in full force.

Here's the truth: Steph was glory seeking in the moment and made a bad break for the ball, almost taking his teammate out. If he moved a little wider, he'd have been in a better position. Perhaps Andre kicks the ball on into that space and Steph scores a try. Opportunity lost.

I watched the game again last night and Esterhuizen in fact played less than 40 minutes and in that 40 minutes two minutes were particularly bad.  In minute 13 he knocked on the ball in a good pass to him and  the Aussies started a counter-attacked, in going back Esterhuizen intercepted  the ball and then kicked it directly into touch.   End result the Aussies got front foot ball as a result of the above.

At minute 20 he had another brain fart.   He made a grubber kick and then trip up the faster runner - Du Toit - and then made a neck tackle on Banks,  Yellow card and that heled the Aussies in scoring a try,

As to containing Kerevi it was real BS.  De Jager made more tackles of Kerevi than he did.  In one incident Kerevi made a clean break with Esterhuizen about a meter away from him and he made no effort to even try to tackle Kerevi.   Nice Idiot Speak on that one.

On the day the real points he earned was nothing more than 3 out of 10.    Elsewhere  SB writes  that Esterhuizen was included in the squad to train with the team - but will have no chance to be in the bench against the AB's and that I am afraid is what is really going to happen.

Another case of Idiot Speak.   That is another load of BS you invented,  In reality Esterhuizen was piss poor and out of depth on test level - even the poor Frans Steyn was better than he was.  Read what I wrote what really happened - not what you dreamed up.   He played himself out of future Springbok teams I am afraid.

Andre had 1.6% possession in that test. What do you suppose he is supposed to do with that? This is by far the lowest possession for a centre since I have been logging data: 8 years. Now what was it about the gameplan that necessitated that our 12 had no ball? It's funny how noone else thought to consider this. To his credit, he made that 1.6% count, and played his role in the Nkosi try. He may have made something happen after that grubber, were it not for Blinky Bill du Toit and his two left feet! His defence was excellent. Dominated the Kerevi that only Eben and Andre could handle.

If he never plays for the Boks again, it rests on the head of whoever is coaching. Damian will never better Andre and has failed every coach who believed in him. Six years of failure and counting. Your man J-Raz sure knows how to pick on reputation and not performance.

Easy to understand if logic is used.   In the whole match -

*    Jantjies passed the ball 34 times;

*    of these passes balls about a third went to Esterhuizen - understandable since he played for only 42 minutes of the game.

Esterhuizen did squat with that possession and he was utterly useless.

Nice photo of the tackle his arm never was anywhere bar around Banks's neck.    Dangerous tackle and yellow card fully deserved.    Th above description of handling Kerevi was totally false as well.   The forward who tackled  Kerevi more than any other player was De Jager.
