On 18 April there is a no-confidence motion to be debated in Parliament.   Fearing that some of their members the ANC threatened potential dissenters in the ANC for voting for the motion.   The threat of physical and other harm was very clear and came from the Zuma camp.
As a result the UDM has approached the Constitutional Court to rule that a secret ballot should be used in that case.   Secret ballots are used in Parliament for the election of the President and Speaker - but thus far the ANC has refused such secret votes in the case of no confidence debates.   The Speaker has opposed the request based on the ANC view.
However, the Government has lost virtually all cases  in the Constitutional and other courts  lodged by the opposition or other interested bodies - the string of losses is endless and in view of the physical threats it is very possible that the Constitutional Court would not be amused in this case and may rule against the ANC.
In the meantime President Mbeki - who never publicly commented on political issues since he was pushed out of the Presidency by the Zuma faction -  made the following statement:-
"Former president Thabo Mbeki has urged MPs to put the country first when they vote on a motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma‚ The Star newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Parliament is due to debate the motion in a week after calls from opposition parties for Zuma to step down.

Mbeki said the Constitutional Court had outlined the role of MPs in its Nkandla judgment‚ which criticised parliament for not holding Zuma to account by failing to implement the findings of the public protector.

In this context‚ consistent with its Constitutional mandate‚ among others‚ the Constitutional Court explained the place‚ role and tasks of our MPs‚ and therefore the National Legislature‚ strictly as defined by our constitution‚” Mbeki said in an online version of The Star article.

Mbeki said that MPs must act as the voice of the people‚ “not the voice of the political parties to which they belong”‚ the article said.

“It may be that the current controversy has‚ at last‚ imposed on our country the opportunity and obligation the better to define the constitutional and moral relationship between the people and their elected representatives.”

It is very clear that there is a revolt brewing in the ANC and if the Constitutional Court allows a secret ballot Zuma may be out.

“It may be that the current controversy has‚ at last‚ imposed on our country the opportunity and obligation the better to define the constitutional and moral relationship between the people and their elected representatives.”

It is an acid test to determine whether the Constitutional Court has the integrity and strength to administer the law...the audacity of a president that has shown his true colours...no respect for the law let alone the constititional law...totally lacking in any credentials to rule and a clear manipulator of the worst kind that has the same characteristics of an Idi Amin, Stalin or a Gadaffi.

If the Court fails then indeed Mike we are in the deepest pit...possible civil unrest that SA's never seen before.

What does amaze me is the absolute total blindness of SA's perception on somebody chosen to lead in the first place...it's really quite sick and sad. Why it took so long for people to see this only now boggles the mind...if the constitional court fails we're are a pathetic and weak nation then...we cannot fight back.

So far the Courts have not allowed the Government to get away with anything - so maybe that would be the case here as well, especially since some ANC MP's have been threatened already.

It's good to know that Mike...so far so good but this is dealing with a venomous, slippery snake and that is indeed the acid test...it's a do or die situation.

Mike if Zuma is thrown out will there be riots and upheaval for a while.

The army or what's left of it has an allegiance to who?

The other day I had lunch with of a couple of old school mates after a memorial service of one of our old buddies you died, one of them was Ian Deetlefs (he was a major/brig. general in the SADF) headed the army at one stage...he could give a good answer to that one.

If there is any such  upheavels when Zuma is gone it would represent serious problems and will finally destroy the ANC.   I do not think Zuma's personal support is  high enough to go for a coup - the army is gutless - but the spooks could be a problem.
The problem is not only Zuma - most of the Ministers and have corruption skeletons in their cupboards - they are all guilty of bribery and corruption and so are the ANC Youth League who is basically in the pay of the Guptas.
The whole nest of snakes will have to be weeded out and that could be a serious problem.  The provincial governments in KwaZulu-Natal always follow the Zulu ethnicity and those of Mpumalanga, North West and the Free State are 100% corrupt, while Northern Cape and Limpopo is not much better.  So is the Eastern Cape as well.  The Gauteng ANC hates Zuma's guts - but they are not as corrupt as the others are.
It also depends on who succeeds Zuma if he is voted out - I think it may be Zweli Mkhiz e as he is a compromise that could find reasonably wide acceptances as he is a Zullu and it would result in a break of unity amongst the Zulu ANC members.

The big question is will anybody better follow Zuma? The anc isa corrupt racist organisation and I will be surprised if they have any decent people to take over.In fact what African government is anything but corrupt? Botswana maybe?

Beeno - there is one ANC MP who made a statement on the ANC yesterday.   She has been roundly attacked by the Gupta surrogates (the ANC Youth league) for that.  She chaired the committee interviewing and was tryng her utmost to make the process by-partisan and I think she was disappointed by the way the new Public Protector turned out.
She was also on the SABC Parliamentary Committee and was very slighting iro of the Minister.   However, I think that you should read her statement of yesterday.   The other person I think who had a fairly clean record since his Richmond days are Mkhize to whom I have referred.

Cyril Ramaphosa is more dangerous than Zuma. He is intelligent enough to team up with Gupta-like clowns and get away with it without being caught out. And, Seb....... "Not a Zulu (thankfully)........". Did you think that one through? Check your comments on Moz' Mexican joke.

Ramaphosa is gutless and will not be able to control the patronage lot in the ANC.    I think he will be an improvement on Zuma though.
However, I also think that the ANC is so riveted with dissent and factions that they will have no chance in the 2019 elections.  In recent by-elections in Municipalities they have lost circa 30% support on average.   In by-elections there is always a lower number of voters - but the actual loss of voters were about 51% and the turnout was about 20% lower than in the last municipal elections - so I reduce the difference by 20% to 30%.
In a by-election last week in PMB the result was DA - 53% vs ANC - 44%.   In the last Municipal election the result in the said Ward was DA - 47,81% vs ANC 46%.  That represent a turnaround of 8% in that ward.

The Constitutional Court has accepted the motion and indicate return dates for responses from the various parties.   That means the case will be heard by the Court, which is already an indication of interest in the matter.
The return papers are to be submitted by 19 April - which is after the date of the Parliamentary motion discussion scheduled on 18 April and the Speaker has been asked to  postpone the motion discussion till after the Concourt has made a ruling on the issue of secret voting .
If the Speaker refuses - then the Concourt would be approached for a decision ordering the postponement until the judicial hearing has been finalized.   In the end the opposition - if it proceeds will just boycott the session if the Speaker refuses and carry on with the motion discussion.

What's that got to do with the price of eggs, pinhead?...I am all in favour of peace...tribalism and rivalry are not...I grew in Natal, knew the Zulu people from an early age, speak their language and hunted with them on the farm and grew to love them but this is another divided generation...they can be very violent and manipulative but yes there are some really good Zulus...know lots and I have a lot of respect for Mangosuthu Buthelezi ..listen pal, get some intelligence and understand what people are saying in right context before your thick mind cannot separate the wood from the trees. I would prefer the leader to be not Zulu for this reason...Zulu is a tribe not a race...I would also prefer to live in Eireland than England...those comments made by Moz were distasteful, insensitive and lack breeding...very borgeouis...new money and vulgar. Hurting peoples feelings...that this...saying I hope the new leader is not Zulu does not hurt anybody but is my observance of reality, arsehole.

Ramaphosa on the otherhand is Venda...a neutral stance but is very intelligent.

I cannot comment on his character because I never judge on hearsay and newspaper reports and do not know him but I know those who do and have fished with him. Be this as it may...

But before the factions start forming little groups on this forum in preparation for brave major keyboard warefare,  I suggest you read this...

Spare me the lecture. It is typical social justice warrior stuff to get you tail knickers in a twist over something like Moz' joke and then make a crap equally racist comment.
This PC BS and SJW is what is the cause of a lot of kak all over the place. It reminds me of these idiot activists who always show up and have something to campaign against. This is a typical example of their hypocritical BS.

Maybe Africa should be re-colonised.
No dominant majority middle class has been created that can elect competent and trustworthy leaders- that don't loot the tax payers money.
I am sure the Traditionalist would be delighted by this idea.

Careful Shark.......Chaballs, Rooinek and Clevermike would find attacking Traditionalist unfair. Or Chaballs might say it was 'distasteful, insensitive and lacking breeding.....very bourgeois, new money and vulgar. Hurting peoples' feelings....saying I hope the new leader is not a Zulu does not hurt anybody" . LMAOFY!

Nobody would want re-colonization and extortion of raw resources like happened in the past - but what we need is mechanisms that get rid of corruption.
The Constitution is supposed to cover this by including Section 9 institutions.   Those are amongst others -
*   The Public Protector*   SARS*   The National prosecution authority
All three has been undermined by appointing Zuma operatives to take charge.   They are thus protection mechanisms for the crooks.   The Hawks and the Police has gone rogue with crooks and liars in charge.   For instance when the Johannesburg Metro Mayor laid corruption charges against people with political connection they refuse to investigate the charges.      The same is happening with the Railways.   The Head of Police paid off over R5 000 000 in debts within the last five years - he is no doubt on the take and the matter is under investigation.   The Head of Hawks appointment has been nullified by the High Court in Pretoria - but he is still there because he had appealed.   Instead of him being suspended until the appeal court has decided on the issue - he is still at work.
The Court system is now our only hope.
