Like it.  Went to see a performance of Anna Karenina in St Petersburg and was fascinated by it - wonderful performance and music.
Ballet originated from France - but it was adopted by the Russians - I believe because it fits in well with the original Russian folk dancing.

@CC. I am not really that familiar with all of their music but I have heard quite a lot of it and Du Hast is probably my favourite. I would probably never have known about them but I have been blessed with two sons who are more into music than me. My eldest used to play guitar in a rock band back in the day and he was the one who introduced me to Rammstein and also bands like Nightwish and Dream Theatre. I heard Du Hast for the first time when I was in the car with him and immediately liked it. Like many rock and metal musicians he also likes his share of classics as well and is also a big fan of Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus, of course. LOL.

My all time favourite rock classic has to be Smoke on the Water. Many bands have covered it and IMO very few really did it justice. Dream Theatre basically covered the entire Made in Japan album and they probably came the closest to the real deal. And then I recently discovered this version with the likes of David Gilmore, Brian May and loads of others teaming up with Ritchie Blackmore and the boys. https://youtu.be/1tsw3nKDlBE

Wish You Were Here is a Pink Floyd song but to me it will always be a David Gilmour song. Genius as you say. There are some great musicians around today but somehow they just do not quite compare with the earlier greats. Just think about those great bands whose music is still covered by modern artists. Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Nazareth, Bad Company, Queen, Black Sabbath, The Moody Blues, Status Quo, CCR, The Stones, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and the list goes on and on and on. The modern day ones that come close are Dream Theatre, Nightwish, Live, etc. Hell, even Metallica is getting closer to the old Toppies. On other great lot who has been around for ages and probably also count as a kind of transition from the classic rock to modern day is Bon Jovi.

 
I know "Wish you were here" well ... and yes, David made it his own. A brilliant piece of music by a man born to do nothing else. Those were the days when music meant something.

We were blessed to have so much talented musicians all at once.

Yet ... my dad thinks I've lost my mind when I compare this "noise" to Frank Sinatra. I still haven't convinced him. You should hear what he has to say about Bob Dylan. It's blasphemous. I've given up trying.

You just cannot compare the music of today to the magical tunes of our era.

Status Quo ... lol ...that takes me back to a deserted beach in Port Alfred ... just me and my girlfriend at the time.

@Cloudy, if I really had to list my favourite bands/musicians the list will be too long. I can to my sons' Metallica, Rammstein, etc. Obviously the old school rock bands that I listed. Of course Dire Straits have to be there. I can sit down with CC's dad and Ol' Blues Eyes any day of the week and through in Dean Martin and Jim Reeves just for the hell of it. I can share Seb's classics as well. I was watching Maurice Ravell's Bolero by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Herbert Karajan for the umpteenth time the other day. A real genius as well, old Herbert. Do yourself a favour and check the clip of him conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra playing the Radetzky March where he even conducts the audience as well when he get them clapping along.

Cloudy...did you enjoy The Water Diviner...I did very much...in fact I enjoyed most of New Zealands actor Russell Crowe's movies, Master Commander, the Cinderella Man, Gladiator, the Insider etc.

He was born in NZ (wellington, I think) but lives predominately in Oz...he is a true actor...not a poofter hollywood americano like de niro and di caprio...lol.
