Six weeks out from the Rugby World Cup, Sonny Bill Williams finds himself out of the All Blacks line-up and in the crosshairs of the New Zealand media.

Williams will miss the opening Bledisloe Cup Test in Perth on August 10 as he seeks to regain fitness following another injury-plagued season.

His critics argue there are more deserving centres in the ultra-competitive All Blacks selection race as an ageing Williams continues to struggle to string consistent performances together.

But Williams doesn’t want to hear about it, responding to recent reporting by telling his critics to “get your priorities right.”

“I find it very interesting when so called ‘private’ conversations end up in the media,” the 33-year-old tweeted.

“And for those that say I’m under pressure playing a game that I enjoy. Get your priorities right. Look at what’s going on in the world. Starving children, the single mother raising 3 kids, the atrocities refugees are facing around the world, racism. This is what I call pressure.”

Well, that was like waving a red rag to a bull when it came to the Kiwi press.

“(Williams’ tweet) ignores the simple concept that people can be obsessed with sport and concerned about the plight of others at the same time,” Rattue wrote.

“And it’s easy for a veteran sports star, and yes, an often brilliant and groundbreaking sports star, to pontificate so.

“Some of the blokes His Royal Highness may keep out of the World Cup will be feeling the pressure, and they may even hold concerns about world events at the same time.

“I’d prefer to be force fed the pathetic religious ramblings of Israel Folau, because they are at least genuinely held, if misguided.

“SBW’s casual use of world tragedies for his own purpose is narcissism dressed up as altruism. A man who claims he is feeling no pressure sounds like a man under pressure. So take that sermon and shove it SBW.”

Ex-Kiwi cricketer Mark Richardson also took a swing.

“I’d suggest that doing one’s job is the most important priority for a sports journo, so do you deny the right of a sports journo to do their job, Sonny Bill? So they can feed their families Sonny Bill?” asked Richardson on The AM Show.

“Just like you get paid to do your job Sonny Bill, which I assume is a priority of yours to care for your family Sonny Bill.”

Richardson’s co-host Duncan Garner also decided to join in on the rant against the All Black.

“Sonny Bill, he’s precious,” Garner said.

To which Richardson replied: “Honestly Sonny, yes there are people struggling in the world and yes we care about them.

“But you are an All Black. Get over yourself and let people in this country talk what they like to talk and that is rugby.”

A rare fit of tension over in Mudd Island! He is most certainly under pressure. I can't recall a good game from him in quite a number of years. He is, on merit, not worthy of donn ing the silver fern. It's that simple. Fred needs to get it together, or he'll end up in the same boat as J-Raz.

Yep, I'd say he was gone a while ago. They need to find another partner for Goodhue.

I find it strange that NZ make these kinds of gaffs. They're usually on point. Maybe too much interaction with us has rubbed off on them!

Sunni bill want more Muslim immigration to Nz it seems.

Suuni bill was never quite the same after almost being knocked out by old man Botha.

Not good enough anymore. Lacks the commitment.

Like some of the other posters on that article, the rush defence has stopped the outside backs getting ball. It was the same story last year at the same venue- this time Sonny Bill was not playing.

Luamape will be starting for the AB's with Lienert Brown ( spelling??) on the bench as he can cover 12 & 13.

SBWuh was the sacrificial lamb to give Luamape a rest. Same as how Rokaduguni, Cokanasiga and Ben Theo only feature for England against the teams the Roses should beat but will be battered by big runners.

I loved the part where the Boks have a 2v1 out wide and Damian kicks into the corner. I simply love this revolutionary new attacking rugby we are playing! No aimless kicking, especially not deep in opposition territory!

@Xavi: I prefer the slow-mo!

Thanks Draad. Huffer's post about Allende lacking upper body strength is hilarious.

That's the problem with a tribute video, it can make anyone look good, or functional. Here's the real Damian, warts and all:

You are a fucking MORON Mike, have you even watched the clip?
Duh Allende gets absolutely crumpled by SBW before Du Toit tackles him around the ankles. Du Toit is wearing the No.5 jersey.
How can you deny it? The video evidence is right there.

What's the point of sh!tting on DdA all the time? It looks like it's mainly to bait Mike.

DdA is not the greatest 12 ever to play for SA, not the worst either, but at the moment he is the best we have. Sugesting that Fransie can suddenly step in and save the day is bizarre to the extreme.

This constant "gep!s en kerm" about him reminds of Percy and Slaptjips being Boo-ed at Loftes while running out for the Boks....extremely cynical "glass more than empty" day in and day out. Same with Rassie bashing....and Kolisi...on and on and on...look for the weakest link and start moaning.

The previous WC it was Maaik bashing Matfield, FdP and Meyer....perpetual arguments...and I know we are all guilty of it, myself included.

Rassie keeps placing Damian ahead of the pack, so he'll continue to be up for debate. It's your opinion that he is the best we have, I have a lot of material that says this isn't the case. I rank him, at best, our fourth option at 12. We have always had a better 12 than Damian freely available for selection. It's plain stubbornness to persist with what is no more than another media created myth.

Frans has already shown better. Andre has done much more than Damian, both last year and this entire season. I would bet that Serfontein is also better.

The difference between Damian and the players you listed is talent. Monty was raw in his early days, but he was clearly talented. There are others who have been booed or attacked by the media: Smit, Schalk, Habana, Frans, Morné, Pollard. Before the 2007 WC everyone knew that du Preez, Juan and Butch were carthorses who would cost us any chance of a WC. These players are legends of Boks rugby. What has Damian done to be in such company? He loses an entire test on his own and comes away a hero. In fact, that performance was used as "proof" that Damian and Kriel were the world's best centre pairing. Lügnerin bemoans the loss, but the general consensus post game at the time was very positive. Likewise Lambie and Reinach's blowout through the 2014 EOYT. Endless praise. Saffers love mediocrity, and it's that love of mediocrity that sustains the careers of players like Damian over more deserving people.

I haven't really bashed Rassie, though I have poked fun at him parking the tractor. I've merely corrected hundreds of posts of errant information from the resident Pinocchio. He perpetually turns any discussion on Rassie to an attack on Meyer. This is fair game, and he makes it too easy.

I can't deny that I do have a very hearty laugh at Lügnerin's short fuse. It keeps me coming back.

Well, to me it looks like a constant fight between the Mike camp and the anti-Mike camp...and Frans Steyn is a good player with lots of xp, but he is way past his best and best suited to see off close matches with a level head at the death...and yes, it's my opinion that DdA is the best 12 we have at the moment...and the coaches and selectors seem to agree.

"Saffers love mediocrity, and it's that love of mediocrity that sustains the careers of players like Damian over more deserving people. "

Horse shyte!...it's the love of dragging everything they don't agree with into the sewers that p!sses me off the most of us South Africans. Pigheaded infighting is the biggest poison amongst us Saffas, if not for that, we would probably have ruled the world already.

Oom Muck loves this stuff, it keeps him alive, getting up at 3.00 am in the morning to post. Now on to the points at hand. Allende is bloody awful. So many chances and nothing.....and I literally mean nothing ....to show for it. As for Stephanie, a clear flop as a number 5 lock....who simply couldn't manage the Bok lineout. He has been hilariously resurrected as a blindside flank....who can't fetch, can't break tackles and spends most of his time on the left wing. And the South African fake media has fallen for the whole ruse, hook line and sinker, a view totally gobbled up by the deluded fans. Nobody outside the South African sphere buys this horse!

Yes Oom Maaik likes he fights and joins the insults enthusiastically...and I'm fine with it too..most of the time...it's the odd nastiness raising it's ugly head that's a bit of a concern....there is a fine balance between fun and nasty.

DdA is no center...he is a center/wing/flanker hybrid and it seems that he is an integral part of the Bok game plan...he reminds me of  Serevi Nakalavuki who played wing for WP under Rassie....imported from Fiji...everyone hated him for his obvious errors, but Rassie stuck with hime because he also did some things Rassie thought important to the team success...if you are going to look at DdA purely as a classical 12, you miss the point....he is not a type cast center, end off. The much maligned tractoring seems to be importand to Rassie too

There is nothing revolutionary about how Damian is used. He just doesn't offer very much. I'm just grateful those bar of soap offloads are gone. He isn't used in space like he used to be. There is nothing he does than Andre and Frans don't do much better.

Damian is a wing at heart though. Which is sad, as he looks the most clueless in space. His runs are stodgy, his peripheral vision is like a mole peering through straws, poor distribution, horrid defence. I'll say this, he is good fielding restarts.

I watched the whole tape over a nice breakfast.....thanks Augie. Streamed off my computer onto a nice big screen, I looked in vain for one moment where Allende made a difference. Hauled in from behind by Farrell when he had open field....barely catching up with Huw Jones and only because Jones was impeded, Allende isn't fast. Nor is he elusive...he tractors. Move after move you see him die with the ball.....creating turnover opportunities almost every time he runs. By the time he hits the deck he is usually surrounded. Mostly though one is struck by his slow mental processes. The Aussies throw long and the ball lands in his channel, but he stands frozen 5 metres behind the goal line.....Aussie try. Then he gets the ball with Kolbe wide open outside him and he takes the tackle, instead of getting his pass away. Try lost. Reinvesting in Allende who is now the obvious incumbent is a mistake. One of 3 big calls Eraser has made. The others are Kolisi as captain and Stephanie as our 7. These are make or break decisions, and history suggests more break than make. The Boks have a losing record with Stephanie starting at flank and Allende partnering Kriel at centre. Kolisi's record as Bok captain 7 wins/6 losses.....but he has a 1/0 record as water carrier. Perhaps there is a lesson there.

Moz, you can ridicule all you like. You castigated Jacque Fourie at his prime for years, for reasons only you can know.

You seem to have a very high bar, I can appreciate that, but you also have a few biases and blind spots.

DdA is no hero, but he does mor than your run of the mill 12. Did he not have 3rd highest turnover steals at RWC 2015, beating most openside flankers...or was it second most? Can't recall, it gets ignored on here. Just like Kolisi's most clean breaks and most meters per run in last years RC...not your normal 6's stats, but he surprises in other areas of the game....good enough?...noooo! We have to fine comb his performance for errors to prove how kak he is....p!sses me off to the extreme...exactly the same thing as the slating of a few other errors by once Bok greats....to me it seems petty and foolish.

I was probably the first to commend his breakdown work. this was before 2015, but it was particularly good in an otherwise shambolic 2015 super rugby campaign. He hasn't been nearly as effective under Rassie and Coetzee though. I cannot tell you why. He looks hesitant at times, blown away by physicality at others.

Also, I don't have to fine comb through his performances. I catch almost all of these in real time. I put the video together as an entire body of work to refute the many lies and errors of those who defend him. It's already proven useful. It takes very little work to bring to light his flaws. It's much tougher to get people to acknowledge them. At least there are more people awake to it, unlike 2015.

I agree, slagging off Bok greats it foolish and stupid. Damian is no Bok great though. He hasn't proved he belongs at test level. He has his hands full with super rugby, lets leave him there to try and figure himself out.

@Mozferatu: Glad to be of service. That video acts as a bug spray for clearing away the common Mike gnat.
