Day 1
Defending champions Australia showed that they will be a force at the 2013 Championship with that side comfortably brushing aside the United States 6-0 in their opening game at the tournament.
At the same time beaten 2009 finalists the Black Sox, and winners of five world crowns, were 5-0 winners over Mexico.
The opening game of the Tradestaff ISF Men's World Softball Championships saw Samoa beat Great Britain 2-0. In the closest game of the opening day Canada left their winning charge to the last innings against Argentina. Canada scored the equalising run in the seventh and then forced the game into two tie-breaker innings to win 2-1.
The tournament was opened with a fantastic parade of the 16 countries represented. The Hon. Minister Steven Joyce and Auckland Mayor Len Brown kicked off proceedings. What a thrill it was to see the school children leading the teams out - they were so excited and in awe or meeting their heroes.
