…Duane Vermeulen. How many steals did that guy make and in the backline perfectly to create the overlap. Age is just a number, although he is beginning to look a bit like Russell Crow.

Talent trumps youth with no/little talent. Great talents can stick around longer because they still offer more, and with experience, know when and where to make game changing contributions. Agreed on the Crow comparison

One good amtych after at least 7 flops - is that the norm for election of players?

70 failed tests. Your stamp of approval.

Dud Toit hasn’t played a decent game since the WC final, where he served a single purpose….not a peep from Clever.

Du Toit was nothing special even in the final. His only two good tests being the 2018 Wallabies and England tests.

But that’s all Vermeulen does Definitely not the SA player of the week Yes his steals are good but your 8 needs to be visible in general play as well Buthelezi, Tsituka and Elrigh Louw were far far more involved in their games Elrigh Louw had a great game he was the best 8 on the day of all the SA 8’s

That’s all he does, what making turnovers that saved tries?

Vermeulen gathered about half of the long kicks….safely took the kick offs and was a link in the backline on one of the tries and organized the close in defence.

But sure let’s pick Buthelezi.

Vermeulen did nothing of note other than effect some great turnovers That does not equate to being the best SA player of the week not even close The old man offers nothing in general play these days other than being a physical presence over the ball or taking a kick off An 8 needs to offer far more which is what Buthelezi, Tsituka, Roos and Elrigh Louw do week after week Vermeulen is strong but he is done as a test player - adds no value in general play - plays his rugby like an enforcer lock, which is fine for club rugby at the end of his career.

With Roos potentially out of the equation, Vermeulen’s chances of making the WC squad have multiplied Will be a mistake but if we are going to have an old man on board I’d rather it be Vermeulen than Frans Steyn

Roos has not looked the part at test level. I doubt even Erasputin would be so crazy as to promote him right now without an injury enforced selection.

Roos is a great number 8....very unlucky for him to be injured....he has not been given enough chances @ Bok level, but his last outing against ENG, was much better then his earlier showings...the more time he gets the better he will become @ Bok level.

...and ironically Vermeulen was the one responsible for his injury...not that it was intentional...I rate Vermeulen highly,  but he's a bit old...Roos needs to start.
