South African rugby supporters petition to axe Springboks coach Allister Coetzee and stop quotas

Frustrated South African rugby fans have started a petition calling for the axing of the Springboks coaching staff and boycotting of Boks games because of "racial discrimination".
They believe the quota systems are destroying the South African game.
The petition comes in the wake of the Springboks suffering their worst home defeat, a 57-15 demolition by the All Blacks last weekend, to complete a miserable southern season.

They have emailed for support of a petition posted on thesportsfreak.com and by Tuesday had gathered more than 1700 signatures plus some volatile comments.

"With this message, we the South African rugby community, both black and white, stand together and demand the replacement of the current South African coaching group. It is clear that the selection process was racially biased and the best candidates were not selected, we call for an immediate intervention to replace both Allister Coetzee and Mzwandile Stick," their message said.
"Furthermore we call for a stop to all forms of racial discrimination in South African rugby, known as 'quotas'," saying it violates World Rugby regulations which "prevent any form of racial discrimination in rugby.
Their call to action included: "We as the international rugby supporting community stand united against South African rugby's 50 per cent black selection policy, and call for the immediate boycott of South Africa's participation in all international rugby events due to racial discrimination. "

They claim the appointment of Coetzee as Springbok coach was political rather than merit-based and believe his style of play is incompatible with the approach of his assistants.
They say the solution lies in appointing former Springboks coaches Jake White and Nick Mallett to take charge again.
"We would throw so much money at Jake White and Nick Mallet that they cannot resist the offer," their argument read.
They said the exodus of players from the country wasn't all about chasing bigger money offshore. They believed many young white players were leaving in frustration because of the quota systems in place at Super Rugby and provincial levels.
The petition follows some severe criticism of the Springboks' performance against the All Blacks with claims South African rugby was in a "crisis" and facing a bleak future irf changes weren't made.
Coetzee was appointed after previous coach Heyneke Meyer didn't have his contract renewed following the World Cup exit of the Springboks last year. The Boks lost a tight semifinal 20-18 to the All Blacks who went on to win the tournament.

even if IMO the quotas weren't SA rugby's main problem, it was time for the saffas to do something about this complete aberration which besides is racist and useless

I'm in but I'm not sure it'll help much. Never forget that the politicians insisting on these quotas don't actually give a toss whether we win or lose, they just want to see the numbers.

I suspect some (many?) of them are also bitter little men who are actually jealous of the Springboks achievements and their real agenda is to drag SA rugby down to the level of Buffoona Buffoona . . . and for these miserable corks in the arsehole of progress, petitions like these will basically mean they are achieving their goal.

 apart from that, what i see is that it's probably a little bit late,..... there are no more boks' test games in SA untill the next year and there's no posibility of boycotting or demonstrations,..... this should have begun before the RC and before that meeting at the UN,...

but better late than never,.... if the movement strenghtens (and that's a real posibility if the boks continue playing like they are and nothing points otherwise) for the next year june tests something could be thought in term of protests if nothing have changed

 Correct Rooi, the reality is that the powers that be do not give a toss about the Bok, SA sport or the suffering of the people. It is all about the seat on the gravy train with Zuma sitting up front. In a normal society there is a level of accountability and with that the possibility for change. Clearly we are not dealing with normal.

 This is a piece of news to rejoice over. It must be passed down to as many rugby fans as possible. The more signing it, the better.

Rugby often claims educational values. This is one way  to get resources allocated to it.

Rugby fans had a hard time taking a stance against the Apartheid.
So when they can stop sitting on their hands to sign a petition in the transformation thing is going to be another nail in the coffin.

Rugby will remain that sport unshaken by the sight of the apartheid and strongly disturbed by the quota thing. Excellent.

Not at all. That is the rugby fans who do not give a toss about the suffering of the people in SA.

In SA, among other things, children are dying from malnutrition. And fans are petitioning for this situation to endure so they can still enjoy their rugby shows.

The powers to be have nothing to do with the petition.

These petitions are nothing but hot air. The politicians don't give a rats arse! Stop the money and they'll take note, outside that, all the biatching & moaning and petitions will do a big fat fark all!
