Hey ou Draad...meant in a wider general context and light heartedly...we tend to be very insular and don't really know what happens beyond our borders and the outer regions of the globe...ie watching the Georgians playing some time ago against Tonga in a restaurant/pub and the peanut gallery kept referring to them as Russians...lolIt is sometimes embarrassing.

My missus soon put them in their place

Mark Shuttleworth is a genius but he was educated at a blue chip school in Rondebosch, Bishops...my cousins daughter Kim used to be his PA/secretary and went over to Russia with him and so did a bunch of those who worked for him and they each received R1,000,000 as a gesture and celebration after he went into space. He is a great man.

In a lot of ways, that can be attributed to millions of Americans and British people

I'm quite astounded sometimes when speaking with them, of how little or aware they are of what happens outside their countries, especially in Africa

It's hilarious to joke with them though.

Years ago when I was attending a school rugby game, this school was playing against a touring English  team, someone went and closed the main gates for reason unknown to most attending the game, some English guy asked me why they closed the gates, and I mentioned that after a certain time of the day the Lions become very active in the streets.

The look was just priceless...... will never forget it

Another example is that South Africans and probably Americans think Red Square is named Red because they think it has something to do with old Soviet Red Army and flag but they are ignorant because Red Square was always Red Square even in the days of the Tsars.

Red in the Russian context has nothing to do with it...it means beautiful square and indeed it's beautiful...not sure how old it is, perhaps more than a 1000 years old.

 Seb, most people of all nations are ignorant . ..it's a choice though. I try to learn as much as I can about the greater worl out there. That's why I love the internet...and message forums by extension . It has allowed me to make friends across the world without the huge expense of travel . ..I would love to travel , but unless I get lucky with the Lotto, my travels would be very limited .
