Well done to the Kings. Pretty much all of us wrote them off and they responded by winning their first game.

It looks like a well coached team and the team played their heart out. The tackling was epic and the general commitment in everything.

Great allround team performance. Luke Watson is a smart player and was good for the time he was on. Engelbreght is a very powerful runner and the winger Petersin looks like a great finisher.

I say leave the Kings in, this is a much better effort than the useless Lions.

Solomons has always been a smart coach....and they made some good choices in putting the Kings together. This is so classical, we all thought the Kings would be walk overs.....good on them for showing us that the team that is willing to compete always has a chance!

I was indeed surprised by the result of this game - I must admit I did not give them a chsnce in this game.  They really shoed us all about what is possible in rugby - Congrats to all involve.

However - there is a worring aspect as well - an that relates to Australoan rugby in particular.   The Force did give the Rebels with a host of big name players a hard time - and then came out and got beaten by a team that cannot be regarded as really the strongest team in SA,   The Kings beat the Force by a wider margin than the Rebels did - hence myworry about Aussie Rugby,

Well done to the Kings but lets not get carried away. It was only the Force and Kings had a lot of passion leading up to this opener. Their challenge will be when injuries hit. Do they have the depth! You have to forgive us for thinking not!

Force are probably the team you would most likely want to start your season off against. I expect the results to still get large on the kings throughout the season.

It was only the Force who will also be on the bottom of the log. It was just the way the Kings played, they actually looked like a SuperXV team- not some 2nd division Curry Cup team.

It was though a very good start because the Force did not appear to play badly.

Based on that performance the Kings may win one or two more games. If this is the case, perhaps SARU should just say that a play off match is cancelled and keep the Kings in.

What a nightmare only being informed in August that they would be playing. By this time all players in SA had signed contracts so the playing pool was greatly diminished to choose from. Plus SARU then limited the amount of foreign players. As well as the play off hanging over them after one season- who will any player get signed by them for career security. Not sure if the Kings even have a sponser yet as everyone is expecting them to be an embarresment. SARU are useless.

@mikey,

u of all people should know that how one team performs against another, dosent mean jack when another team plays that team.

factors to consider are the force are the worst team from NZ and OZ when it comes to travelling in SA.
the kings were written of by everyone in SA not from eastern province, so they were pumped beyond from the get go.
force have always been one of the weakest if not weakest teams in the comp.

another way to look at it is, the sharks lost to the lions last year, does that mean the lions would have beaten the chiefs???

i cant see the kings winning any more of their matches in 2013, but i wouldnt be surprised if the did beat the rebels and the cheetahs.

i do expect them to push a lot of teams to the limit, especially in front of their home fans who were wonderful supporters on the kings opening match.

i think they are in with a shot to avoid the wooden spoon though and that in itself would be an awesome effort.

could u imagine the uproar if the cheetahs finish last in the SA confernce??? o_O

i wouldnt be half surprised to se SARU back track on that relegation game propsal, after all they have been just as anti-kings as the majority here,,,, myself excluded of course, :oP
