SP Marais shows class

SP Marais was good when he first became noticeable playing for the Kings in 2013.   The Sharks was so impressed at the time that they contracted him, but he then ran up against Jake  White who rarely selected him to start in games and the next year Gold did the same. 
The question is why did it happen that way?   White generally is really hopeless as to coaching  of backline players and worse in selections.   The key player favoured by White was Fat Fransie - notorious for ball hogging and aimless kicking - so the Sharks backline was malfunctioning,     In that environment it was in fact impossible for backline players to function properly.    
In 2015 Gold was even worse than White as a backline coach.   Fact is that White generally has a good understanding of coaching forwards - his real deficiency is backline coaching - Gold is a clueless and useless coach who failed wherever he coached.  
Marais then in 2016 went to play for the Bulls in 2016.   That was  also a damaging move insofar as Marais is concerned - he was in another malfunctioning backline  situation.  
Marais moving to the Stormers was to my mind not a major positive news item - since he was under-utilized by both the Sharks and the Bulls and did not live up to his initial favourable impression.   Then that Kiwi consultant of the Stormers got hold of him and today we have an entirely different and hugely improved player being in evidence.
The above is in line with what happened in the case of Willie le Roux.   For the Cheetahs in 2013  he was excellent.    Then Meyer and Gold got hold of him and he became a nonentity.   In most games he was bog-ordinary if not below par,   All his skills was coached out of him and it showed in his performance,  
Le Roux just could not fit in with the non-existent game plans of Meyer and Gold.  Coetzee was even worse than those two.  One wonders where he would have been as a player if he was in the same situation as Marais has been this year with a Kiwi advisor getting hold of him.  
I think that both could benefit massively from the new set-up where Coetzee would be forced to use proper backline coaching.   Smith did wonders in improving Zeilinga as a flyhalf - so the same could happen with Pollard and other potential Springbok flyhalfs.   Look at what Du Plessis and Du Preez got to with that Kiwi Advisor - two totally different and improved players. 
I wish the Springboks would get hold of that Kiwi advisor of the Stormers and use him for backline coaching assistance.    He would do wonders with the available players.
