The most logical choice seems to be PSTD or Eztebeth- as they are assured of starting places.
I expect the contenders are-
1. Kolisi. (Current Sharks captain). 2. Steph Du Toit3. Eztebeth4. Beast  (Former Sharks Captain)

I think the captaincy of the Super Rugby franchises are more or less window dressing for the benefit of the Government.
I always have a problem with the captaincy issue.  In the first instance any decent coach will select his team and from the players thus selected identifies a captain.
One of the major mistakes of Coetzee was to select Strauss as captain before his team was announced.    Strauss was a dicey selection at hooker - there were better players than him contending for selection and instead of strengthening the team - the cap taincy appointment in fact weakened the team.

Agreed Matey, this guy Mtembu is way out of his depth.

Say Dense, are you ever going to answer the simple question I asked you on this thread or are you going to be a gutless coward and just pretend it isn't happening?

Poster 1 says player A might be named captain of the British Lions. Player A is not named captain but he is still included in the Lions squad and remains a likely test starter.

Poster 2 says player B will be named captain but when  the squad is announced, player B is not even named in squad.

So who was "nobbled"? Was it player A or player B?

Hmmmmmmmmmm ... ???

Let me see now ...

Poster 1 ... or ... poster 2 ... ???

Poster 1 has his pick included in the squad ... it's a definite ...

Poster 2's pick remains behind ... as in he's not touring with the rest of those selected ... as in staying home ... on the couch ... watching the whole sag unfold on TV ...

Hmmmm ... ???

That's a toughie!!!!

Only guy worth it presently is Whitley. Part of a good system, controls his team well, makes good decisions and in my view is first in line for the 8 Jersey.
But then, I was always gonna say that.

Whitely could do the job provided the tactic is to provide him a roving roll

Plum I know one person who agrees with you.
My brother-in-law.
He is a Lions fanatic and believes that all 15 Lions players should be the Springbok team.
Yes, and he also lives in that JHB corridor.
Pity.
Vasco.

Haha Arthur, he sound like a winner to me.
Honestly I think each other SA franchises have more outright/true test players than the Lions do. At the same time, I don't think it's possible to select a better group of players than the Lions to build on.
Last year's effort was a half baked hodgepodge cluster F that left everyone low on confidence. Coetzee even admitted at the end of last year that he should have put more faith in the success of the Lions.
All I'm saying is that we have an awesome foundation. As good as it's gonna get really, why not build on it?

Apparently SARU wants to lure Vermeulen back to SA, but IMO he has a mountain to climb back to form. ATM there is no clear captain, so my bias pic would be Eben by default...interim captain Beast? Not a bad choice either. Still early in the season, so maybe someone would emerge...not too hopefull though. If Pollard can get back to form.
