Springbok lock botches a try . . .

If you read this forum on a regular basis and particularly if you read the vapid and biased witterings of our resident rugby noob, you'd think this topic heading refers to Pieter-Steph du Toit . . . as we're told he botched not just one but two tries somewhere in the middle of his Man of the Match performance on Saturday in the 1st test against the Wallabies. We're not told exactly when these botched tries by PSdT happened but we're expected to believe the most biased and ignorant rugby poster on this forum simply because he said it happened.

Well, I'm not talking about Pieter-Steph, I'm talking about the fan boys favourite Eben Etzebeth and unlike Moffie, I can be a lot more specific about his botched try. It's early in the second half - 47 minutes and 46 seconds into the game to be exact - when Eben receives the ball down the right hand side with Cheslin Kolbe outside him. A quick pass to Cheslin Kolbe would give Cheslin a one-on-one with plenty of space and even after Cheslin has given up hope of receiving the ball and cuts inside, an inside pass to any one of Cheslin, Marx or de Allende would result in an almost certain try . . . but there's no pass at all, instead Eben tries to bust through the tackle of little Dylan Pietsch and is stopped in his tracks before being bundled into touch by Harry Wilson.

Now while we've heard all about these alleged botched tries by the much-maligned Pieter-Steph du Toit (with no evidence or substantiation) there's not a tiny little peep about Eben's blunder . . . probably because according to his adoring fans, he's the greatest player in the history of the game and he gets a free pass no matter what mistakes he makes or how often he lumbers around the field not making any kind of impact. Pieter-Steph can score a fantastic try, be named man of the match and once again be the most influential Springbok player but he's castigated while Eben is comprehensively outplayed by PSdT for about the 15th or 16th consecutive game and gets subbed after botching the try and yet another average performance and not a peep from the PSdT bashers.

Just i magine if you would, the loud and shrill outcry on this board if it had been PSdT who messed up that try rather than Eben. Our ears would still be ringing! 

And not a squeak from the Willie fan club either for botching a certain try. Had he looked to his right he would have seen two of his team mates with air to beat and a tryline begging. Instead he cut to his left straight bang into traffic.

Minute 19.40 ….all Dud Toit needs to do is hold his feet and offload…..’they must  score’ says the commentator. But Dud is motionless, can’t hold his feet and throws a backhand pass which goes forward. Ball turned over to Oz 5 metres out. 

Yes, I remember that incident and was equally frustrated. How these biased little twits can ignore those incidents and rather dump all over Pieter-Steph - who did finish off an excellent try - is beyond me. Certain players can do no wrong in sone eyes while others can do no right.

In ‘sone eyes’….is that when the setting sun is a problem? It seems your eyes are a problem as well, couldn’t spot the time stamp. Have you seen a good optician lately?

Wrong with your qualifications you wouldn’t have got the job interview…what could you possibly bring to the party.

As for your conclusion it’s nonsense. Dud Toit is overpowered 5 metres out with Kolbe wide open to his left……Eben is tackled outside the 22 with Kolbe open to his right. He should have passed but I’m guessing he lost track of Kolbe. I agree that was an error…as was Willie turning in field…..but neither of them got an inflated 9.5 rating, so typical of the hype surrounding the Dud who blew a far more obvious opportunity and turned over the ball 5 metres out with a forward pass.

Dave if that was Snyman it was a try all day long ….he would have got his arms above the tackle and been free to distribute. Worst case he takes the tackle and we score on the next phase….what you don’t do is throw a forward pass.

As for the lineout, it was a botched try opportunity….we had already scored a maul try from a similar distance.

But I agree with you on Eben, Kolbe switched inside and he never spotted it….(sic) has always disliked Eben. When he was framed prior toWC 2019 (sic) was so gleeful it was sickening.

The only real botched lne-out was in 2014 in the away test against the AB's,   The AB's was leading by 14 points to 10.    The Springks got a penalty on the AB 22 and kicked the ball to the corner with a view to try ad get a push-over try.   The ball was thrown for Matild to form the necessary driving maul - but he buggred up badly and slapped the ball back so badly tha the Springboks collected the ball near to 15 meters from the tyline and the started a failed backline attack,   The Boks lost he test because of that Matfield foul up. 

No actually they lost the test because Dud Allende shepherded his man for 25 metres allowing Nonu to offload for the winning try. Ably assisted by Lomp de Jager who blew a straightforward tackle for a try.

Thought we're on about circa 2024 past saturday why the rewind to 2014?
