1. Beast = 8/10
Initially, he was in the bomb squad, but it was clear that he is a better starter with Kitshoff the impact player. Beast is the best loosehead prop in world rugby, and he has had a fantastic career.
2. Bongi = 7.5/10
Started the tournament excellent, but levelled out a bit from the quarters onwards, and Marx slowly got his form back and made more impact in the finals
3. Malherbe = 9/10
Proved himself as the best tighthead scrummager in the tournament. He is the type of player that takes long to get back into form after an injury, but he got better and better as the tournament progressed. Lots of tackling around the fringes, and overall high work rate in the tight phases for a prop.
4. Eztebeth = 7.5/10
Solid starting player in the tight exchanges, and even varied his game doing a good offload in the final.
5.Lood = 8/10
Enhanced his reputation by delivering good performances against the top test teams, and not just the minnows. The lineouts looked like a Matfield lineout when he was on the pitch.
6. Kolisi = 6.5/10
Good player that makes a solid contribution. Subbing him with a specialist fetcher proved as a workable system.
7. Steph Dutoit = 8.5/10
A high work rate player, than epitomizes what it is to be a Springbok. He is everywhere.
8.Vermeulen = 9/10
Arguably South Africas best player of the tournament. His kick-off takes summarize his physicality. He competed well on the ground, and must have been a candidate for the most steals. An allround loosie that can adapt his game based on the situation.
9. Faff = 8/10
Other than his box kicks, he is the form scrum-half in world rugby.
His tackling is ferocious.
10. Pollard = 8/10
Started the tournament slow, but got better in the business end.
Excellent pole kicking as well as up and unders.
11. Mapimipi = 9/10
Rassie proved he knows his stuff. Most of us called him to be on the bench- but he is now arguably the best finisher in world rugby. His all-round game has improved in leaps and bounds. Mastered the rush defence, and competed well on up and under's.
12. Delande = 9/10
A few years ago he forgot how to play rugby. It goes to show what playing under a good coach does.
He was the most consistent backline player for the Boks, and maybe the most physical backline player in world rugby. Lots of turnovers as well. The biggest improvement to his game is his tackling technique and understanding of defence management.
13. AM = 7.5/10
Excellent defence, and had a good attacking game in the final.
14. Kolbe = 9/10
Lethal finisher and great under the high ball. His step makes him the most dangerous player out wide, and he could sidestep people in a phone booth. A fan favourite and everyone's favourite foreign player. At only 5.7 he is all guts and glory.
15. Leroux = 8/10
Made lots of mistakes, but he was involved as a playmaker in most of the best-attacking movements. Saved his best game for the final, where he was exceptional.
Bomb Squad:
Kitshoff= 6.5/10
Solid if not exceptional or in his very best form.
Marx= 7.5/10
Got better as the tournament progressed, and made the setup draw and pass for Mapimpi
Koch = 7/10
Played well after being called into the system as an injury replacement.
Mostert = 7.5/10
Dropped from starting lineup, but high work rate as an impact player.
Snyman = 7.5
Some good matches - fitted into the system seamlessly from the bench
Francios Louw = 8.5 /10
Still one of the best fetchers in world rugby.
Jantjies = 7/10
Played less due to Faff being on the pitch most of the game. However, he was solid and looked very confident in the final for the last 10 minutes. He has a good future ahead of him, and can continue within a good coaching set up to improve.
Frans Steyn = 8/10
Ideal player off the bench. Was unfortunate to get a limited time on the pitch, but he is still world class - even if he has lost some pace. Looked good at fullback where he could use his boot to play the game in the opposition half.
